CITY OF ROME RELEASES PROPOSED TAX MILLAGE RATE FOR ’18

Written by Matt Davis on July 3, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

The City of Rome has released the proposed tax millage rates for 2018.  The proposed combined rates for the city government and schools of 27.536 will result in no increase of millage rates from the prior year, according to a media release from the city, but will be 1.08 percent (.295 mills) over the calculated rollback rate of 27.241.

The estimated city and city school tax for a current $125,000 market valued home would have been $1,377 in 2017.  If the rate was rolled back for 2018, it would be estimated at $1,362.

Rome City Commissioners will hold three public hearings on the rates.  The first will take place at their July 9th meeting at 6:30 pm.  The others will take place on July 16th at 10 am in the Sam King Room and on July 23rd at the City Commission’s 6:30 pm meeting.

The millage rate is slated for adoption at the Commission’s July 23rd meeting, after the third hearing.

Those with questions about the public hearings should contact Sheree Shore, City of Rome Finance Director, at (706) 236-4420.
