Written by Matt Davis on August 9, 2012. Posted in News/Weather

The Bayou will come to the Rome Civic Center on Thursday, August 23rd as the Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home hosts their annual Low Country Boil and Barbecue.  Doors will open at 6:30 pm with dinner to be served at 7:15 pm.  A live auction will begin at 8 pm.  A silent auction will also be held.  Chieftains President of the Board Ruth Demeter says some excellent items will be on the auction block.  Those include posters of Amelia Earhart and John Towers donated by the Smithsonian Museum, a flying lesson with Earl Tillman, a week stay at a Napa Valley resort, and more.

Tickets for the Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home’s Low Country Boil and Barbecue are $65 for an individual ticket, $600 for a reserved table for eight, and $750 for a reserved table for 10.  Reserved tables include Cherokee syllabary highball glasses.  RSVP by August 16th by calling (706) 291-9494.

Demeter says that the search continues for a new director of Chieftains Museum; she expects the position to be filled by October.  She also says that plans are coming along for the Interpretive Center, which will tell the story of Major Ridge in a manner accessible to visitors.
