CHIEFTAINS MUSEUM/MAJOR RIDGE CELEBRATES A MILESTONE IN 2019 WITH SPECIAL EVENTS

Written by Matt Davis on January 8, 2019. Posted in Uncategorized

The Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home celebrates a milestone in 2019 – the 200th anniversary of when Major John Ridge established his home at the location now known as Chieftains.

This milestone will observed with the presentation of “Of Influence: Portraits of Cherokee People”.  The traveling exhibition is on loan from the Oklahoma History Center and is funded by a grant from RACA, the Rome Area Council for the Arts; it is slated to open on January 16th

Heather Shores, Director of the Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home, says that the exhibition is one of a number of programs to be offered by Chieftains this year to commemorate Major Ridge’s arrival two centuries ago.

“Of Influence: Portraits of Cherokee People” features portraits of people of influence in the Cherokee tribe ranging from 1845 to the 1960s, according to Shores.

The exhibition will be open to the public and included in the cost of regular admission to the museum through February 28th during the museum’s normal operating hours, Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
