Stock up on items for your spring garden (and support a historic landmark at the same time) at the Chieftains Herb and Plant Sale slated for this weekend.  The sale will be held in the Village Building at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds in Rome; sale hours are 8 am until 4 pm on Saturday and noon until 3 pm on Sunday.  Proceeds will benefit the Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home, a site designated by the National Park Service as part of the Trail of Tears and a National Historic Landmark.

Heather Shores, Executive Director, says that the museum will lend a helping hand to other organizations at this year’s sale.  Contributions will be accepted towards items on the wish lists of local groups with community gardens.

And you just never know who may show up at the Chieftains Herb and Plant Sale.  Georgia’s Governor and First Lady Nathan and Sandra Deal supported the sale last year.

Sale attendees will have an opportunity to select from a wide variety of herbs, annuals and perennials, trees, organic vegetables and more.  Credit and debit cards will be accepted, as well as checks and cash.

Floyd County Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer advice at their Ask the Experts table.  There will also be a potting station.

The Herb and Plant Sale is sponsored by Friends of Chieftains Museum, Inc.  More information is available online at www.chieftainsmuseum.org.

This marks the final day of the Spring Plant Sale at Georgia Northwestern Technical College; it will be a half day with hours set for 9 am until noon at the greenhouses across from the college’s Floyd County campus, next to the Woodlee Building.  Proceeds will benefit GNTC’s horticulture program.  The sale began on Tuesday.
