CHAMBLISS CITES GRIDLOCK IN WASHINGTON AS REASON FOR NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION
The big news in the world of politics late last week was the decision of US Senator Saxby Chambliss not to seek re-election in 2014. Chambliss has cited gridlock in Washington as the reason for his retirement.
In a statement released on Friday, Chambliss stated, “This is about frustration, both at a lack of leadership from the White House and at the dearth of meaningful action from Congress, especially on the issues that are the foundation of our nation’s economic health. The debt-ceiling debacle of 2011 and the recent fiscal-cliff vote showed Congress at its worst, and, sadly, I don’t see the legislative gridlock and partisan posturing improving anytime soon.”
A number of popular Georgia politicians are expected to seek the post currently held by Chambliss when the 2014 election rolls around.
