ROME BRAVES TO HOLD 2012 HOT STOVE GATHERING TONIGHT

The Rome Braves will hold their 10th annual Hot Stove Gathering tonight at 5:30 pm at the Forum in downtown Rome.  

SHORTER CHEER HAWKS TO PERFORM AT HALF TIME OF MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME TONIGHT

Shorter University’s competitive cheerleading program will perform during halftime at tonight’s men’s basketball game against Truett McConnell, in preparation for the Mid-South Regional Cheerleading Championships.  Both the Cheer Hawks’ small and large co-ed squads will be featured this evening and will head to Campbellsville, Kentucky this Saturday to duke it out for an NAIA bid to the NCA Collegiate Cheerleading National Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida in the spring, according to a Shorter sports release.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY BASEBALL SPLITS TWIN BILL TO OPEN 2012 SEASON

The Shorter University baseball team opened their 2012 season by splitting a double header with Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday.  Southeastern won game one 5-3, while Shorter won the night cap 10-4.  The Hawks continue their road trip in Florida today in Jacksonville against Edward Waters College at noon.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL WEEKEND UPDATE, GAMES ON TAP TO START THE WEEK

In your local college basketball update from over the weekend, Shorter University split a pair of Southern States Athletic Conference matches with Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee on Saturday night.  The 24th ranked Lady Hawks lost to the Lady Flames 71-58.  The number one Hawks maintained their perfect record with their 21st win of the season 80-77 over the 17th-ranked Flames.  Shorter’s basketball teams will host Truett McConnell tonight in a couple of SSAC East games at the Winthrop King Centre on the Shorter University campus.  Tip off is set for 6 pm for the women and 8 pm for the men.  The games will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  

WINNING NIGHT FOR SHORTER UNIVERSITY

It was a victorious night for Shorter University over Brewton Parker in a couple of Southern States Athletic Conference East Division basketball games at Shorter’s Winthrop King Centre last night.  The 24th ranked Lady Hawks beat the Lady Barons 78-41.  The number one Hawks remain undefeated with their 20th straight win over the Barons 97-70.

College baseball is on tap for this weekend!  The Shorter University Hawks will be down in Florida to take on Southeastern Florida.  According to www.goshorterhawks.com, today’s game has been canceled.  Tomorrow’s double header will get underway at noon.

BRAVES FEVER BREWING IN ROME, GEORGIA

If you are a Braves baseball fan that just can’t wait until the 2012 season begins, you’ll have a couple of chances to get your fill of the Bravos right here in Rome in the near future.  The Rome Braves Hot Stove Gathering is coming up on Monday night, January 30th at 5:30 pm at the Forum in downtown Rome.  Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez will be the guest of honor.  The guest list also includes the 2012 Rome Braves field staff including field manager Randy Ingle.
