ATLANTA HAWKS FALL TO MIAMI HEAT AT PHILIPS

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks lost to the Miami Heat 107-87 last night at the Philips Arena.  That leaves the Hawks with 18 wins and 11 losses overall so far for the 2011-2012 season.  They’ll be in Los Angeles to take on the Lakers tomorrow night at 10:30 pm.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL POST SEASON UNDERWAY

In high school basketball post-season action from over the weekend, the Model Lady Blue Devils beat River Ridge 70-59 to win the 7 AA South Subregion tournament on Saturday night at Georgia Highlands College.  Pepperell won the girls’ third place game 51-49 over Armuchee.  The Coosa Eagles also emerged as victors in the 7 AA South Subregion tournament with a 75-62 win over Rockmart.  Armuchee took a 58-57 victory from Model in the boys’ third place game.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: SHORTER’S NUMBER 23 LADY HAWKS, NUMBER TWO HAWKS NOTCH WINS OVER EMMANUEL; COLLEGE HOOPS ON TAP THIS WEEKEND

Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both picked up wins from Emmanuel last night at Shorter’s Winthrop King Centre.  The 23rd ranked Lady Hawks beat the Lady Lions 70-45.  That was followed by a 67-52 win for the number two Hawks over the Lions, which allowed the Hawks to maintain a perfect record in the Southern States Athletic Conference.  The Lady Hawks will return to action tomorrow at home against Brenau.  Tip off is set for 2 pm.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  The Hawks are off until Monday night when both Shorter teams travel to Marietta to take on Southern Poly.  

COLLEGE BASEBALL ON TAP THIS WEEKEND

College baseball is on tap this weekend for local teams.  
Shorter University’s Hawks will host Albany State tomorrow in a double header at noon at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Field.  It will be Shorter’s 4th annual Striking Out Breast Cancer event and will be followed by a single game between the teams at 1 pm on Sunday.   

ATLANTA HAWKS DOWN IN FLORIDA TO FACE ORLANDO MAGIC TONIGHT

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks will be down in Florida to take on the Orlando Magic tonight at 7 pm.  The Hawks just finished a four-game home stand that left them with one win and three losses.  They have 17 wins and 10 losses overall so far for the 2011-2012 season.

In your local college basketball update, Berry College’s Vikings lost to Maryville College 70-62 last night in Maryville, Tennessee.  The Vikings will be joined by the Lady Vikings in hosting LaGrange on Saturday.  Tip off is set for the women at 2 pm, followed by the men at 4 pm at the Cage Center on the Berry College campus.  Coverage will be provided on WLAQ AM 1410 and www.wlaq1410.com.

SHORTER BASEBALL HAWKS LOSE ON THE ROAD TO TENNESSEE WESLEYAN

Shorter University’s baseball team lost to Tennessee Wesleyan 8-5 yesterday in a non-conference game in Athens, Tennessee.   The Hawks will return to action this Saturday at home against Albany State.  The double header will get underway at noon at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Field.  Saturday will be highlighted by Shorter’s 4th annual Striking Out Breast Cancer event.  That will be followed by a single game between the teams at 1 pm on Sunday.
