Guess what, Braves fans?!  Opening day is just two days away for both the Atlanta Braves and the Rome Braves.  The 2012 season will open this Thursday for the Atlanta Braves in New York against the Mets and for the Rome Braves in Charleston, South Carolina against the Riverdogs.  We remind you that once the regular season begins, you’ll be able to hear all the action of Atlanta Braves baseball on WLAQ AM 1410 and Rome Braves baseball on 95.7 FM The Ridge.

ROME BRAVES ANNOUNCE 2012 ROSTER

In other Braves news, the Rome Braves have released their roster for the 2012 season.  Rome Braves General Manager Mike Dunn says, “This is an exciting young team.  We look forward to our tenth season of baseball under the leadership of Randy Ingle and our fine coaching staff.”

In college softball, Shorter University’s Lady Hawks will host Brewton Parker in a double header today at the Alto Park softball complex.  First pitch of the first game is set for 5 pm.

Shorter University’s baseball Hawks will be in Waleska, Georgia to take on Reinhardt today in a non-league double header.  The first game is set to get underway at 4 pm.

KENTUCKY WINS NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

And just in case you didn’t stay up late to watch the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, Kentucky beat Kansas 67-59 in the big game last night in New Orleans, Louisiana.  That marks Wildcats’ eighth national title and their first since 1998.

Braves fans, your wait for the 2012 regular season to begin is almost over!  The Atlanta Braves and the Rome Braves will both open the season on the road this Thursday, April 5th.  The Atlanta Braves will be in New York to take on the Mets that day, while the Rome Braves will be in Charleston, South Carolina to take on the Riverdogs.  Once again this year, WLAQ AM 1410 and 95.7 FM The Ridge will serve as Northwest Georgia’s Braves connection.  You can follow the Atlanta Braves once the regular season begins on WLAQ, and listen to Rome Braves baseball on 95.7 FM The Ridge.

ATLANTA HAWKS OFF FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER WEEKEND WIN, LOSS

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks have a few days off after a pair of weekend games that resulted in a 100-90 win at home over the New York Knicks on Friday night and a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers 95-90 on the road on Saturday night.  The Hawks will return to action on Wednesday night at the Philips Arena against the Charlotte Bobcats.  Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.
