College baseball is on tap for today as Berry College’s Vikings are set to host Point University.  The double header will get underway at 3 pm at Berry’s William R. Bowdoin Field.

POWERS TO RETURN AS MODEL HIGH’S HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

Gordon Powers will be returning to Model High School as their head football coach this fall.  Powers was Model’s head coach from 2003 to 2008.  He will replace Lynn Hunnicutt, who recently announced his upcoming departure from that position.

The start of the 2012 season has been rough for the Atlanta Braves as the New York Mets completed a three game sweep of the Braves over the weekend at Citi Field in New York, but think positive – it is still very early in the season!

ROME BRAVES SWEPT BY CHARLESTON RIVERDOGS TO START 2012 SEASON

It’s been a bit of a rough start to the 2012 season for the Rome Braves, as well.  The Rome squad is now 0-3 so far after losing to the Charleston Riverdogs 1-0 in the series closer between the teams at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in Charleston, South Carolina yesterday evening.  The Rome Braves continue their season opening road trip with a stop in Savannah for a three game series with the Sand Gnats tonight thru Wednesday night.  First pitch of tonight’s game is set for 7:05 pm at Savannah’s Grayson Stadium.  JB Smith will bring you the story of the game on 95.7 FM The Ridge (and online at www.theridge957.com) and will go on the air with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm.

COLLEGE BASEBALL: SHORTER, BERRY SWEEPS

Shorter University’s baseball Hawks completed a three game sweep of Southern Wesleyan over the weekend at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.  The Hawks won Friday night’s game 7-5 and both games of Saturday’s double header 4-3 and 2-0.  The Hawks will return to action as host to Belhaven in a three game series this coming weekend.

ATLANTA BRAVES FALL TO NEW YORK METS IN 2012 SEASON OPENER IN NY

Baseball season is back!  Unfortunately, it did not begin on a winning note for the Atlanta Braves as they fell to the New York Mets 1-0 yesterday in their first game of 2012 in New York.  Tommy Hanson was tagged with the loss  The Braves have today off and will return to action against the Mets tomorrow at 1:10 pm at Citi Field.  Tune in for all the action of the game after Sports Talk Saturday on the AM 1410 WLAQ, Rome’s original home for Atlanta Braves baseball.  Air time for the pre-game show is 11:55 am from the Atlanta Braves radio network.

ROME BRAVES SEASON OPENER HALTED BY RAIN IN CHARLESTON, SC

The Rome Braves’ season opener in Charleston, South Carolina against the Riverdogs was halted due to rain last night.  The Braves were leading it 1-0 in the bottom of the first when the game was suspended.  The game will resume as part of a double header on May 18th in Charleston.  Hopefully the Braves and the Riverdogs will be met with better weather tonight as they go head to head at 7:05 pm at Charleston’s Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge.  Air time for the pre-game show is 6:45 pm.
