ATLANTA HAWKS TO HOST MILWAUKEE BUCKS TONIGHT

The Atlanta Hawks will host the Milwaukee Bucks in NBA action tonight  at 7:30 pm at the Philips Arena.

BERRY, SHORTER BASEBALL TEAMS TO PLAY HOME GAMES THIS WEEKEND

College baseball is on tap for local teams this weekend.  Berry College’s Vikings will host Denison in a three game series tonight and tomorrow at Berry’s William R. Bowdoin Field.  Tonight’s game will get underway at 7 pm, and tomorrow’s double header is set to begin at noon.  Shorter University’s Hawks will host Emmanuel at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex over the weekend.  The teams will play a solo game today at noon and a double header tomorrow at noon.

BERRY SOFTBALL TO PARTICIPATE IN NTC CLASSIC

Berry College’s Lady Vikings softball team will get back into action over the weekend.  They’ll participate in the NTC Classic in Clermont, Florida tomorrow through Wednesday.

COOSA EAGLES’ RUN IN STATE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS COMES TO AN END WITH LOSS TO JORDAN AT EAGLES’ NEST

The Coosa Eagles’ run in the Class AA state high school basketball playoffs came to an end last night with a loss to Jordan 75-58 in the Sweet Sixteen round at the Eagles’ Nest at Coosa High.

In local college basketball news, the Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships are officially underway!  They began yesterday and continue thru Saturday.

The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Golden State Warriors 85-82 last night on their home court at the Philips Arena.  The Hawks will welcome the Milwaukee Bucks to Atlanta tomorrow night for a 7:30 pm game.

Rome area girls’ high school basketball teams continue on in the state playoffs after big wins last night.  The Darlington Lady Tigers took an exciting, down to the last minute victory from Towns County 63-58 on the road in a Class A duel.  They’ve now made it to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history and will go on to face top-ranked Wesleyan on Saturday at 4 pm at Marietta High.  Coverage will be provided on the AM 1410 WLAQ and www.wlaq1410.com.  Model’s Lady Blue Devils have  made it to Class AA’s Elite Eight after securing a narrow 62-60 win over Greater Atlanta Christian in the Sweet Sixteen last night at Model’s Devil Dome and will go on to face Lovett on Friday at 4 pm at the Northwest Georgia Trade Center in Dalton.  That game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.

The Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships get underway in Rome today with opening round play.  Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will both participate, but will not see action on this first day of the tournament.  The Hawks are the SSAC East’s number one seed and will make their first appearance in this year’s tournament tomorrow at 6 pm at Darlington School against the winner of today’s opening round game between East No. 5 seed Brewton-Parker and West No. 4 seed Mobile. The Lady Hawks are the SSAC East’s number two seed and will open the conference tournament tomorrow at 3 pm at the Forum in downtown Rome against West No. 3 seed Faulkner.
