SHORTER UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL PREPARING FOR SSAC TOURNEY; COVERAGE ON 95.7 FM THE RIDGE

The Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships get underway in Rome today with opening round play.  Shorter University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will both participate, but will not see action on this first day of the tournament.  The Hawks are the SSAC East’s number one seed and will make their first appearance in this year’s tournament tomorrow at 6 pm at Darlington School against the winner of today’s opening round game between East No. 5 seed Brewton-Parker and West No. 4 seed Mobile. The Lady Hawks are the SSAC East’s number two seed and will open the conference tournament tomorrow at 3 pm at the Forum in downtown Rome against West No. 3 seed Faulkner.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL SWEEPS REINHARDT ON THE ROAD

Shorter University’s 9th ranked Lady Hawks softball team swept a double header with Reinhardt University 7-5 and 6-0 in Waleska, Georgia yesterday.  The Lady Hawks will return to action next week at the West Florida Spring Fling to be held at the University of West Florida on March 6th and 7th.

BERRY BASEBALL VIKINGS FALL TO COVENANT

In college baseball, Berry College’s Vikings fell to Covenant 9-7 yesterday at Berry’s William R. Bowdoin Field.  The Vikes will return to action this Friday night at 7 pm against Denison.

ATLANTA HAWKS BACK IN ACTION TONIGHT AT PHILIPS AGAINST GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

The 2012 NBA All-Star Break has come and gone, and the Atlanta Hawks will return to action tonight on their home court at the Philips Arena against the Golden State Warriors.  Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.

AREA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAMS CONTINUE IN STATE PLAYOFF; COVERAGE ON WLAQ AND 95.7 FM THE RIDGE

A handful of area high school basketball teams continue on in the state playoffs.  We’ll have games for you over the next couple of nights on WLAQ AM 1410 and 95.7 FM The Ridge.  WLAQ AM 1410 will have coverage this evening as the Darlington Lady Tigers take on Towns County on the road in a Class A match up.  Tip off is set for 6 pm for the game, which will also be aired online at www.wlaq1410.com.  95.7 FM The Ridge will be at Model tonight as the Lady Blue Devils host Greater Atlanta Christian at 6 pm and at Coosa tomorrow night as the Eagles host Jordan at 6:30 pm.  Those games will also be aired online at www.theridge957.com.

Shorter University’s basketball teams are gearing up for the Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, which begin tomorrow with opening round play.  Men’s opening round and quarterfinals will be played at the Darlington School while women’s opening round and quarterfinals will be played at the Forum in downtown Rome tomorrow and Thursday.  Friday’s semifinal round and Saturday’s men’s and women’s championship games will all be played at The Forum.  Shorter’s Hawks are the SSAC East’s number one seed and will make their first appearance in this year’s tournament on Thursday at 6 pm at Darlington against the winner of tomorrow’s opening round game between East No. 5 seed Brewton-Parker and West No. 4 seed Mobile. College softball is on tap for Shorter University today as the 9th ranked Lady Hawks  travel to Waleska, Georgia to take on Reinhardt University.  The double header will get underway at 3 pm.

SHORTER, BERRY BASEBALL TEAMS RETURN TO ACTION AT HOME TODAY

If you’re in the mood to watch some baseball today, you’ll have a couple of opportunities to do that on a collegiate level.  Shorter University’s Hawks baseball team will host Talladega College in a double header today at 1 pm at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.  Berry College’s Vikings baseball team will host Covenant this evening at 5 pm at the William R. Bowdoin Field on the Berry campus.
