TIME FOR THE NBA ALL STAR BREAK!

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks ended a three game losing streak with an 83-78 win over the Orlando Magic last night at the Philips Arena.  With the win, the Hawks improve their record to 20 wins and 15 losses overall so far for the 2011-2012 season.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY TO HOST LEE UNIVERSITY TONIGHT; LISTEN ON 95.7 FM THE RIDGE

The Shorter University men’s and women’s basketball teams will play their final home games of the 2011-2012 regular season against Southern States Athletic Conference rival Lee University tonight.  The 20th ranked Lady Hawks will take on the Lady Flames at 6 pm and the number two Hawks will take on the Flames at 8 pm at Shorter’s Winthrop King Centre.  The games will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  We’ll also have coverage this Saturday as the regular season ends on the road for the Hawks and Lady Hawks with more SSAC action in Cleveland, Georgia against  Truett McConnell.  The women will play at 2 pm, followed by the men at 4 pm.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYOFF ACTION ON THE RADIO THIS FRIDAY

We’ll have high school basketball playoff games on the radio tomorrow night on WLAQ AM 1410 and 95.7 FM The Ridge.  WLAQ will have coverage as the Darlington Lady Tigers host Holy Innocents in Class A action at 7 pm.  The game will also be aired online at www.wlaq1410.com.  95.7 FM The Ridge will be at Model as the Lady Blue Devils host Union County in a Class AA match up at 6 pm.  You can also listen to that game online at www.theridge957.com.

BERRY BASEBALL LOSES MARATHON GAME TO BATES COLLEGE

Berry College’s Vikings baseball team fell to Bates College 13-12 in a marathon game that took 10 innings and four hours to complete at Berry’s William R. Bowdoin Field yesterday.  Berry will host North Park in a couple of games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm both days.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL TO PARTICIPATE IN ALABAMA ARCTIC BLAST IN DECATUR, ALABAMA

Shorter University’s softball team will participate in the Alabama Arctic Blast in Decatur, Alabama today thru Saturday.  In today’s schedule, the Lady Hawks will take on Campbellsville at 5 pm and Indiana-Southeast at 7 pm.

ATLANTA HAWKS FALL TO NEW YORK KNICKS IN THE BIG APPLE

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks lost to the New York Knicks 99-82 last night in the Big Apple.  That closed out a five game road trip that left the Hawks with only one win and four losses. The Hawks’ overall record stands at 19 wins and 15 losses so far for the 2011-2012 season with ten wins and eight losses on the road.  They’ll return to their home court at the Philips Arena to take on the Orlando Magic tonight at 7:30 pm.  Then it will be time for the NBA All Star Break.

In your high school basketball playoff update involving area teams, the Trion Lady Bulldogs beat Strongrock Christian 51-38 in the Class A girls preliminary round at home last night, and will advance to the next round on the road against St. Francis on Friday.  Trion’s Bulldogs’ season came to an end (also at home) last night with a loss to WD Mohammed 65-52 in the Class A boys preliminary round.

BERRY COLLEGE SPLITS PAIR WITH COVENANT TO CLOSE OUT 2011-2012 SEASON; END OF SEASON NEARS FOR SHORTER UNIVERSITY

The 2011-2012 season came to a close for Berry College’s basketball teams   with a win for the Lady Vikings and a loss for the Vikings in matches with Covenant College at Berry’s Cage Center last night.  The Lady Vikings picked up a 74-60 victory over the Lady Scots to finish the season with an 8 win – 14 loss record.  The Vikings fell to the Scots 63-58, leaving them with 3 wins and 22 losses for the season.
