In college football, we knew the winner of this year’s national title would be from the SEC. And in the end, Alabama emerged as victors in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game. The Crimson Tide blanked the LSU Tigers 21-0 to win another national championship last night in New Orleans, Louisiana. Call it revenge for Alabama, whose only loss during the regular season was to LSU back in November. LSU enjoyed a 2011 season in which they were undefeated until last night.

We’ll travel to Montgomery, Alabama with the Berry men, who have an 8 pm (Eastern Time) match with Huntingdon College. Both Berry’s Vikings and Lady Vikings will take on Rust on the road on Saturday. Those games will also be aired on WLAQ.
In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the New Jersey Nets 106-101 on the road last night. The Hawks remain on the road to take on the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night at 7 pm.

It was an exciting weekend for the NFL as the playoffs began with wild card games. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Falcons’ playoff run and their season came to an end yesterday as they lost to the NFC East Champion New York Giants 24-2 in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Giants will go on to face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC semifinal next Sunday. The Falcons close out a 2011 season that left them with ten wins and seven losses.

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks picked up a couple of wins over the weekend; they beat the Charlotte Bobcats 102-96 on the road on Friday night, which was followed by a 109-94 home victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night. The Hawks will get back into action tonight in New Jersey against the Nets. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.
