SHORTER UNIVERSITY BASEBALL ENDS FLORIDA ROAD TRIP WITH WIN OVER EDWARD WATERS

The Shorter University baseball team picked up a 12-3 win from Edward Waters College yesterday in Jacksonville, Florida.  The Hawks will play their 2012 home opener this Saturday against the University of Pikeville at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Field.  The double header is set to begin at 1 pm.

ATLANTA HAWKS HEADED TO GREAT WHITE NORTH FOR MATCH WITH TORONTO RAPTORS TONIGHT

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks will be up in Canada tonight to take on the Toronto Raptors at 7 pm.  The Hawks currently have 15 wins and six losses so far for the 2011-2012 season, with seven wins and five losses on the road.

WINNING NIGHT IN LOCAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Shorter University was victorious over Truett McConnell in a couple of Southern States Athletic Conference East matches last night at the Winthrop King Centre on the Shorter campus.  The Lady Hawks won their game 67-33.  That was followed by a 83-68 victory for the number one Hawks, who remain undefeated with their 22nd straight win of the season.  Shorter’s men will be in Atlanta for a 7 pm game with Point University on Thursday night.  Both teams will head to Central, South Carolina to take on Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, with the women to play at 2 pm, followed by the men at 4 pm.  All of those games will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  

BRAVES FANS WARM UP TO BASEBALL AT ROME BRAVES ANNUAL HOT STOVE GATHERING

The Rome Braves held their 10th annual Hot Stove Gathering last night at the Forum in downtown Rome.  Fans got to hear from Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, who was the guest of honor.  Other attendees included the Rome Braves’ 2012 field staff, including manager Randy Ingle.

SHORTER CHEER HAWKS TO PERFORM AT HALF TIME OF MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME TONIGHT

Shorter University’s competitive cheerleading program will perform during halftime at tonight’s men’s basketball game against Truett McConnell, in preparation for the Mid-South Regional Cheerleading Championships.  Both the Cheer Hawks’ small and large co-ed squads will be featured this evening and will head to Campbellsville, Kentucky this Saturday to duke it out for an NAIA bid to the NCA Collegiate Cheerleading National Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida in the spring, according to a Shorter sports release.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY BASEBALL SPLITS TWIN BILL TO OPEN 2012 SEASON

The Shorter University baseball team opened their 2012 season by splitting a double header with Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida on Saturday.  Southeastern won game one 5-3, while Shorter won the night cap 10-4.  The Hawks continue their road trip in Florida today in Jacksonville against Edward Waters College at noon.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL WEEKEND UPDATE, GAMES ON TAP TO START THE WEEK

In your local college basketball update from over the weekend, Shorter University split a pair of Southern States Athletic Conference matches with Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee on Saturday night.  The 24th ranked Lady Hawks lost to the Lady Flames 71-58.  The number one Hawks maintained their perfect record with their 21st win of the season 80-77 over the 17th-ranked Flames.  Shorter’s basketball teams will host Truett McConnell tonight in a couple of SSAC East games at the Winthrop King Centre on the Shorter University campus.  Tip off is set for 6 pm for the women and 8 pm for the men.  The games will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.
