AAA:  GAS PRICES EXPECTED TO RISE THIS WEEK FOLLOWING LANDFALL OF HURRICANE HARVEY

The gasoline market opened with a bang on Sunday night, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which reports that the price on the NYMEX surged seven percent in overnight trading; this signals an upward momentum that is likely to carry over to prices at the pump.

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session this evening.  They’ll gather for a caucus session at 5 pm, to be followed by their meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium).  Both are open to the public.

The Georgia Department of Insurance announced on Thursday the arrest of a in insurance agent in Floyd County on fraud charges related to the misappropriation of insurance premiums.

GDOL:  UNEMPLOYMENT RISES IN METRO ROME, NWGA FROM JUNE TO JULY

The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the unemployment rate for Metro Rome stood at 6.3 percent last month, up from 5.5 percent in June but down from 6.9 percent in July 2016.

QUALIFYING ENDS FOR CAVE SPRING, CONTINUES THROUGH FRIDAY FOR ROME CITY RACES

The qualifying period for those seeking one of three posts on the Cave Spring City Council this fall has officially ended.  Two races will be contested, while one candidate will run opposed on the November 7th ballot.  Charles Jackson, councilman for Post 4, will run unopposed.  Nellie McCain, incumbent, will face challenger Marley Pearls in the race for Post 3.  Mike Ragland, current Post 5 Councilman, did not qualify for another term; that post is now being sought by Nancy Fricks and Linde Wentz.
