BROAD STREET BLOCK PARTY TO RETURN TO DOWNTOWN ROME

If you missed the Broad Street Block Party that closed out the 2012 First Friday Concert Series, we have good news for you.  If you were there and had a ball, even better news.  The Block Party will return to downtown Rome this Friday night!  The free concert will feature the music of Daddy Irv and Babe’s Bayou from 7 pm until 10 pm in the 300 and 400 blocks of Broad Street.  Like the First Friday concert series, this Friday’s Broad Street Block Party is being presented by Rome’s Downtown Development Authority and is made possible by the Business Improvement District.

CHIAHA HARVEST FAIR SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Get ready for a toe-tappin’, cider sippin’ good time at the 48th annual Chiaha Harvest Fair.  The Chiaha is set for this Saturday and Sunday, October 27th and 28th from 10 am until 5 pm both days at Rome’s Ridge Ferry Park.

OBAMA, ROMNEY GO HEAD TO HEAD IN FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

The third and final debate between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney was held last night on the campus of Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.  The primary focus of the sit-down, face-to-face debate was foreign policy, though matters related to the US economy did arise during the debate.

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION TO MEET TODAY

SEARCH NARROWS TO TWO FOR FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT

The Floyd County Board of Education has named two finalists in the search for a new Floyd County Schools superintendent.  Current superintendent Dr. Lynn Plunkett is set to retire at the end of November.  She has served as Floyd County Schools superintendent for the past five years.

SPRIGGS SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE

Robert Timothy Spriggs, age 29 and of Rome, has been sentenced to life without parole following a 2009 shooting incident that resulted in the death of one person and injury to another.  Spriggs was recently charged in the shooting death of 45-year-old John Gregory Davis at his Old Dalton Road home on November 17, 2009.  He also shot another relative of his former girlfriend on Clinton Drive that day.  Spriggs pleaded guilty but mentally to a long list of charges on October 12th.
