ISAKSON REPRESENTATIVE TO HOST OPEN OFFICE DAY FOR ROME CONSTITUENTS TODAY

US Senator Johnny Isakson has announced that his field representative, Amy Turner, will hold an open office day for constituents TODAY (Tuesday, October 16th) in Rome from 2 pm until 4 pm in the conference room of the Coosa Valley Credit Union at 1504 Dean Avenue.  Constituents are encouraged to talk with Turner about any issues concerning the federal government, federal legislation or federal agencies, such as Veterans Affairs, the IRS, Medicare, or the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services.

HARBIN SELLS SOME PROPERTIES

Harbin Properties LLC has confirmed that it has sold a number of the Harbin properties in Rome to Indianapolis-based Duke Realty.  The move is not expected to affect Harbin Clinic operations.  The multimillion dollar deal involves Harbin properties in Rome and other Northwest Georgia communities, including the main Harbin building on Martha Berry Boulevard.

ADVANCE VOTING BEGINS TODAY; POLITICAL CANDIDATES FORUMS SET FOR TOMORROW EVENING

Early/advance voting for the November 6th general election begins today.  It is being offered Monday thru Friday from 8 am until 5 pm thru November 2nd on the second floor of the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  Saturday voting will be offered on October 27th from 9 am until 4 pm in the same location.  Another early/advance voting location will be open at the Rome Civic Center from October 29th thru November 2nd.

LOCAL RESIDENTS TO HIT THE TRAILS AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE WITH ANNUAL WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S

Local residents will hit the trails against Alzheimer’s Disease at the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, November 10th at 10 am at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome.  Registration will begin at 8:30 am.

ZOMBIELAND IS OFFICIALLY OPEN FOR BUSINESS!!

The first weekend of Zombieland is in the books.  Zombieland is a haunted house conducted by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to raise funds for its youth programs.  It is in a new location this year, in front of Mount Berry Square Mall in the old Treasure Island building.

VP DEBATE A HEATED AFFAIR

Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan faced off in a debate last night at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.  The candidates went head to head on issues related to domestic and foreign policy.  It was a rather heated debate, with topics including the recent terrorist attack in Libya, the economy and health care reform.  The debate, which was moderated by Martha Raddatz of ABC News, is the only one between VP candidates this year.

SEPTEMBER REVENUES UP 3.9 PERCENT IN GEORGIA

Governor Nathan Deal has announced that Georgia’s net tax collections for the month of September totaled $1.59 billion for an increase of $59.5 million, or 3.9 percent, compared to September 2011.  Through the first quarter of this year, net revenue collections totaled $4.2 billion – an increase of $175 million, or 4.3 percent, compared to last year.

TELLUS M– USEUM TO HOST HEAVY METAL IN MOTION

A big event is on tap for this weekend at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville.  Heavy Metal in Motion is set for tomorrow, Saturday, October 13th, from 10 am until 5 pm at the Museum.  Marketing director Joe Schulman says some fascinating stuff is in store for attendees of this year’s Heavy Metal in Motion, including a Black Hawk helicopter, an armored Humvee, a hovercraft, vintage cars and trucks and more.  Admission is free for members and included in the cost of admission for non-members.
