CITY OF ROME, DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY RECEIVES FEEDBACK ON FUTURE OF DOWNTOWN ROME

The City of Rome and Rome’s Downtown Development Authority hosted a town hall meeting yesterday for the purpose of gathering input from the public about future development in downtown Rome.

GREATER ROME CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO HOST “SPECTECH ROME V” NEXT WEEK

The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce will host “SpecTech Rome V”, their technology, innovation and entrepreneurship conference, next Thursday and Friday, May 17th and 18th at the DeSoto Theatre in downtown Rome.  Keynote speakers will include Stephen Fleming, Vice President of Georgia Tech and Executive Director of the Enterprise Innovation Institute, and Dr. Chris McKinney, Associate Vice President for Technology Transfer and Economic Development for Georgia Health Sciences University.

FIRST LADY SANDRA DEAL TO SPEAK AT LEADERSHIP ROME GRADUATION

In other news from the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, Georgia’s First Lady Sandra Deal is set to be the guest speaker for the Chamber’s Leadership Rome 29 Graduation Dinner.  The event is set for Tuesday, May 15th at Rome’s ECO Center at Ridge Ferry Park.  A reception will be held at 5:30 pm, to be followed by dinner at 6 pm.  For more information, call the Chamber at (706) 291-7663.

COOSA VALLEY CYCLING ASSOCIATION TO HOST UP THE CREEK CENTURY RIDE THIS SATURDAY

The Coosa Valley Cycling Association will host the 22nd annual Up the Creek century ride this Saturday, May 12th.  The ride will be staged from the front of Armuchee High School.  It is set to get underway at 8 am with riders finishing from 11 am to 4 pm.

RIBBON CUTTING FOR ARMUCHEE CONNECTOR SET FOR MAY 17

The Floyd County Commission has announced that a ribbon cutting ceremony has been set for the new Armuchee Connector at 9 am on Thursday, May 17th.  From that point, it will be open to traffic.  The Armuchee Connector runs from State Mutual Stadium to US 27 near Old Summerville Road.  It was funded by the 2006 SPLOST.

GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL APPROVES FY 2013 BUDGET

Governor Nathan Deal yesterday signed into law the 2013 budget, which will take effect upon the start of the fiscal year on July first.

REDDICK CHOSEN NEW CITY COMMISSIONER

The Rome City Commission has tapped Detrick Redding to be their new commissioner.  Redding was chosen last night at the regular meeting of the Rome City Commission to fill the Ward Two post vacated by Duane Reid at the end of February.  He will be sworn into office at the Commission’s next meeting on May 21st.

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION TO MEET TODAY

The Floyd County Commission will meet in regular session today.  They’ll convene in a caucus session at 1 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 2 pm at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  Take a look at their agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.
