Rome’s Downtown Development Authority is bringing back the Downtown Saturdays series in 2018.  The series, which debuted in 2017 as a replacement for the First Friday concerts, will kick off this May with a celebration of the arts in downtown Rome.

Gas prices rose throughout most of the country last week, albeit by a smaller margin than in recent weeks, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group.  Gas prices in Georgia increased one cent last week, but moved slightly lower over the weekend.  Sunday’s state average of $2.49 is 13 cents more than a month ago and 31 cents more than this time last year.

The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency is teaming up with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service to observe Severe Weather Awareness Week today thru Friday, February 5th thru 9th, 2018.  The goal of this observance is to encourage families statewide to learn emergency preparedness and response procedures for types of severe weather events that can (and do) affect our state.

Just over one and one-quarter inches of rain fell at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport during the downpour that moved into our area on Saturday night and stuck around through Sunday morning.
