Written by Matt Davis on June 12, 2019. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 over eight innings in a rain shortened game at SunTrust Park on Tuesday night, marking the Braves’ fifth straight victory.

It was all about the long ball for Atlanta, which took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second on solo home runs from Josh Donaldson, Nick Markakis, Brian McCann and Ozzie Albies.  McCann broke a 4-4 tie with a three-run bomb in the sixth.

Touki Toussaint gave up two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two in one and two-third innings to get the win; Anthony Swarzak was credited with the save.  Tuesday night’s outing saw to the return of AJ Minter to the Braves’ line-up of pitchers.  Chris Archer took the loss for Pittsburgh.

The Braves improved to 38-29 on the year and remain tied with Philadelphia for first place in the National League East.  Game three of their four-game set against the Pirates is scheduled for tonight at 7:20 pm.  It will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM.  Air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were defeated by the Charleston Riverdogs 3-2 on Tuesday evening at State Mutual Stadium.  The teams will conclude their three-game set today at 1 pm.
