BRAVES TO OPEN SERIES IN PITTSBURGH VERSUS THE PIRATES THIS EVENING

Written by Matt Davis on June 4, 2019. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves were off on Monday and will return to action tonight with the first of three games in Pittsburgh versus the Pirates.  Max Fried will serve as the starting pitcher for Atlanta, while Steven Brault will head to the mound for Pittsburgh.  First pitch is set for 7:05 pm at PNC Park.  Listen to the game on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM; air time is 5:50 pm from the Braves Radio Network.

The Braves completed a five-game homestand on Sunday with a 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers at SunTrust Park. Dansby Swanson was instrumental in the victory with three RBIs, including a two-run homer.

Atlanta’s homestand included a pair of games with the Washington Nationals in addition to the interleague set against Detroit and resulted in a total of two wins and three losses.  The Braves currently possess a 32-27 record and are in second place of the National League East, now only a half a game behind the Philadelphia Phillies (who lost on Monday to San Diego).

In other news from the Atlanta Braves, Austin Riley has been named the NL Rookie of the Month for May.  Riley debuted back on May 15th and has made history as the quickest player to eight home runs in franchise history.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves fell to the Columbia Fireflies 5-2 on Monday night in Columbia, SC.  Those teams will meet again this evening at 7:05 pm.
