BRAVES SWEPT BY NATS AT SUNTRUST PARK
The Atlanta Braves were edged by the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Thursday night in the finale of the Braves’ first-ever opening homestand at SunTrust Park, allowing the Nationals to sweep the three-game series between the teams.
Atlanta had a 2-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning, but the Nationals fought back. Ryan Zimmerman led the charge with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth.
Stephen Strasburg struck out 10 en route to the win for Washington; he allowed just two runs, six hits and two walks over seven innings. Shawn Kelley got the save. RA Dickey took the tough-luck loss for Atlanta after giving up just three runs and three hits, walking two and striking out three over seven innings.
The Braves went 4-3 during their first homestand at SunTrust Park, which opened with a four-game sweep of the San Diego Padres. They’ll be in Philadelphia over the weekend for a three-game series against the Phillies. First pitch of tonight’s series opener is set for 7:05 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410. Air time is 5:50 pm.
In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Greenville Drive 6-1 on Thursday night in Greenville, South Carolina. The teams will meet in game two of a four game set this evening at 7:05 pm.
