Written by Matt Davis on June 14, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves blanked the New York Mets 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a brief two-game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Braves to sweep the series between the National League East rivals.

Mike Soroka rendered the Mets hitless through the seventh inning; it was the only hit he allowed en route to the win for Atlanta.  He also walked only one and struck out four in six and a third innings.  Arodys Vizcaino picked up the save, his 12th of the season.

Freddie Freeman led the Braves offensively with two RBIs, including a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Atlanta maintains a one-game lead over Washington in the National League East standings.

The Braves will open a four game series with the San Diego Padres at home tonight.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 6:20 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves split a double header versus the Greenville Drive on Wednesday at Greenville, SC.  Rome won the opener by a final score of 9-8, while Greenville took the nightcap 6-4.  The Braves will conclude their five-game set against the Drive tonight at 7:05 pm.
