BRAVES RETURN TO WINNING WAYS WITH VICTORY AT PHILLY

The Atlanta Braves returned to their winning ways with a 7-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night in game one of a four-game set among National League East rivals at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.  It marked the 90th win of the season for Atlanta.

Ronald Acuna Jr. got the Braves on the board on the second pitch of the game by Aaron Nola.

The Braves notched one more run in that inning and two more in the second.  Josh Donaldson added an exclamation point with a three-run homer off Nick Pivetta in the top of the seventh.

Mike Foltynewicz got the win for Atlanta after surrendering only one run and three hits, walking none and striking out seven over seven innings.  Nola took the loss for Philadelphia.

Corey Dickerson had a solo home run off Foltynewicz in the fifth, and Cesar Hernandez hit a solo shot off Josh Tomlin in the ninth for the Phillies.

The Braves’ lead in the NL East now stands at nine and a half games over the Washington Nationals; their magic number to clinch the division has fallen to 10 games with 17 games remaining in the regular season.  They will continue their series against the Phillies this evening in Philadelphia.  The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM. Air time is 5:50 pm.
