BRAVES OPEN SERIES IN SAN FRAN WITH WIN OVER GIANTS

Written by Matt Davis on September 11, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game set at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA; it marked the third straight victory for the Braves.

Sean Newcomb gave up just one run and three hits over six innings en route to the win for Atlanta.  He also struck out eight and did not walk a batter.  In fact, the Braves’ pitching staff did not issue a single walk.  AJ Minters got the save, his 14th of the season.

Ozzie Albies was instrumental in three of the Braves’ runs.  He crossed home plate twice and drove in a run on an RBI triple in the top of the ninth.

The Braves now hold a five game lead in the NL East over Philadelphia; their magic number to clinch the division is now 15 with only 18 games remaining in the regular season.  They’ll face the Giants again tonight in San Francisco; first pitch is slated for 10:15 pm Eastern.  The game will be broadcast locally on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 9 pm.
