BRAVES OPEN SERIES AT COLORADO WITH WIN OVER ROCKIES

Written by Matt Davis on April 9, 2019. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves picked up an 8-6 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, CO on Monday night in the opener of a brief three-game set.  It was the second straight win for the Braves, who have now won six of their last seven outings.

Ronald Acuna Jr. got Atlanta on the board with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning.

The Braves nabbed a 7-0 lead by the top of the fifth.  The Rockies threatened with six runs in the bottom of that inning. A sacrifice fly by Dansby Swanson drove Acuna home to score an insurance run for the Braves in the seventh to make it 8-6.  Swanson had a total of three RBIs on the night.

Julio Teheran escaped with the win for Atlanta after surrendering six runs and five hits, walking three and striking out three over five innings. AJ Minter got the save, his first of the season.

The Braves will continue their series against the Rockies tonight in Colorado.  First pitch is slated for 8:40 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 and the new 96.9 FM. Air time is 7:25 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves fell to the Columbia Fireflies by a final score of 7-4 on Monday evening in Columbia, SC.  The teams will meet again today at 11:05 am.
