BRAVES OPEN HOMESTAND WITH WIN OVER METS

Written by Matt Davis on August 14, 2019. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game homestand with a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night in a National League East showdown at SunTrust Park.

Highlights of the night included a solo home run off the bat of Ronald Acuna Jr. during the bottom of the fourth inning.  It was the 60th homer of his career, his 34th of this season.

Acuna scored his 100th career run in the first inning on an RBI single by Josh Donaldson and added a key defensive play in the top of the sixth.

Max Fried nabbed the win for Atlanta after surrendering one run and six hits, walking three and striking out four over six innings of work.  Mark Melancon picked up the save, his first as a Brave.  Zack Wheeler (a Smyrna, GA native) took the loss for New York.

The Braves’ division lead is still at six games over the Washington Nationals and is now nine games over the Mets.  The Braves and the Mets will go head to head again tonight at 7:20 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 and 96.9 FM.  Air time is 6:05 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists by a final score of 13-8 on Tuesday night in Asheville, NC; this evened the three game set between the teams at a game apiece.  The finale is slated for tonight at 7:05 pm.
