Written by Matt Davis on April 12, 2019. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets 6-3 on Thursday evening in the first outing of a four-game set at SunTrust Park, ending a three game winning streak for the Braves.

Ronald Acuna Jr. delivered an RBI triple to get Atlanta on the board in the bottom of the first inning.  He hit a 462-foot solo home run in the bottom of the eighth off Mets reliever Luis Avilan.

Johan Camargo contributed a solo shot in the second.  But these efforts were not enough to overcome the Mets.  Amed Rosario drove in four runs for New York, including a three-run homer in the top of the second.  Pete Alonso hit a  a two-run bomb in seventh.

Kevin Gausman was tagged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and four hits, walking three and striking out five in five and two-third innings of work.   Steven Matz picked up the win, while Edwin Diaz got the save for New York.

The Braves will face the Mets again this evening at 7:20 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 and the new 96.9 FM.  Air time is 6:05 pm from the Braves Radio Network.

In other news from Braves Country, the team has agreed with Ozzie Albies to a seven-year, $35 million contract extension through 2025.  The deal includes options for ’26 and ’27.
