Written by Matt Davis on August 4, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the red-hot Dodgers to take the series 2-1.

Braves rookie Ozzie Albies notched his first major league hit in a major way with a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Other highlights for the Braves included Nick Markakis’ 2,000th career hit; he became the 285th major leaguer in history to reach that milestone.

Sean Newcomb took the loss for Atlanta after giving up three runs and four hits, walking seven and striking out seven over four and two-third innings.  Former Brave Alex Wood got the win for LA.

The Braves will continue their current eight-game homestand with a three-game set against the Miami Marlins over the weekend.  Tonight’s series opener is slated to get underway at 7:35 pm.  Broadcast coverage will be provided locally on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 6:20 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves held on to clinch their eighth straight victory on Thursday night; it was a 6-5 win over the Asheville Tourists in 12 innings at State Mutual Stadium.  The Braves will face the Tourists again tonight at 7 pm.
