BRAVES DROP HOMESTAND OPENER TO CARDINALS

The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 14-3 on Tuesday evening in the opener of a three-game series at SunTrust Park, ending a three-game winning streak for the Braves. 

Mike Foltynewicz was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up eight runs and seven hits, walking three and striking out four in four and two-third innings of work. 

St. Louis tallied four home runs on the night, including a three-run shot from Yadier Molina in the Cards’ six-run fifth inning. 

Marcell Ozuna got the Cardinals on the board with a three-run homer in the top of the first.  Kolten Wong contributed a three-run shot in the ninth.  Jack Flaherty was credited as the winning pitcher for St. Louis.

The Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Charlie Culberson, a bases-loaded walk to Ronald Acuna Jr., and a sac fly by Dansby Swanson. 

The Braves will face the Cardinals again tonight at 7:20 pm.  The outing will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 and 96.9 FM.  Air time is 6:05 pm. 

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Asheville Tourists 5-1 on Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium.  The teams will meet this morning at 10:30 am.
