The Atlanta Braves defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game set at AT&T Park, allowing the Braves to complete a sweep of the Giants in San Francisco for the first time in seven years.  Thus ended a seven-game west coast swing that left Atlanta with six wins and only one loss.

The Giants got on the board first on an RBI single from Evan Longoria in the bottom of the third inning.  An RBI single from Freddie Freeman allowed the Braves to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth.  Charlie Culberson of Rome scored the tie-breaking run on an infield single from Tyler Flowers in the ninth.

Dan Winkler picked up the win in relief for Atlanta, while Jonny Venters got the save.  Will Smith took the loss for San Francisco.

The Braves’ lead in the National League East now stands at seven and a half games over Philadelphia; their magic number to clinch the division is now 10 with 16 games remaining in the season.  Atlanta is off tonight and will return to SunTrust Park on Friday night to open a 10-game homestand with a match against the Washington Nationals.  The game will not be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 due to our coverage of high school football; we will join the Braves Radio Network for the remainder of the Braves’ three-game weekend set with the Nationals.
