BRAVES BLANK ROCKIES EN ROUTE TO SERIES VICTORY

Written by Matt Davis on April 9, 2018. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves blanked the Colorado Rockies 4-0 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game weekend set at Coors Field in Denver, allowing the Braves to take the series 2-1.  It marked Atlanta’s first shutout victory at Colorado since April 18, 1997.

Sean Newcomb had a stellar day on the mound.  He surrendered just five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out nine over six scoreless innings en route to the win for the Braves.

Offensive highlights for Atlanta included back-to-back solo home runs from Nick Markakis and Dansby Swanson in the top of the sixth.

Ozzie Albies added a solo home run in the seventh.  He drove in the Braves’ first run of the day on a ground rule double that scored Ender Inciarte in the top of the fifth inning.

The Braves will be in Washington DC tonight to take on the Nationals.  First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 5:50 pm.
