BRAVES BEAT TWINS, TAKE SERIES IN MINNESOTA

Written by Matt Davis on August 8, 2019. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Minnesota Twins 11-7 on Wednesday in the  finale of a three-game interleague set in Minneapolis; it allowed the NL East-leading Braves to take the series 2-1 over the AL-Central leading Twins.

Ozzie Albies got Atlanta on the board with a solo home run off Martin Perez in the top of the first inning. That was immediately followed by a solo homer from Freddie Freeman.

Albies had another solo shot in the sixth.  Ronald Acuna Jr contributed a two- run homer in the eighth.  Johan Camargo had three RBIs, while Rome native Charlie Culberson drove in a pair of runs.

Max Fried secured the win for Atlanta after giving up three runs and six hits, walking one and striking out a season-high 10 over five and a third innings.  Perez took the loss for Minnesota.

In some not-so-good news from the Braves, Austin Riley has been placed on the injured list with a knee ligament injury.

The Braves will be in Miami this evening for the first of four outings against the Marlins.  First pitch of the National League East battle is set for 7:10 pm.  Listen to the game on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM.  Air time for pre-game programming is 5:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were off on Wednesday and will get back into action tonight at State Mutual Stadium with the opener of a four game series versus the Augusta Greenjackets; first pitch is set for 7 pm.
