Berry Academy alumnus Luis Leon delivered the benediction at the inauguration of President Barack Obama yesterday.  Reverend Leon is the head rector for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington DC, also known as the “Church of the Presidents”.  This was not the first time for Leon to deliver the inaugural benediction.  He did it for the second inauguration of George W. Bush in 2005.

Leon and his sister came to the US from Cuba when Leon was just 12 years old, according to former schoolmate Jack Tiggott, who says that the pair were “Peter Pan Children”, meaning that they were sent to the US by their parents to escape the regime of Fidel Castro.

Tiggott recalls that Leon was an ‘outstanding student’ while at Berry Academy.

Reverend Luis Leon was featured on Fox News Sunday this past Sunday as the Power Player of the Week.  The segment can be viewed on the Berry Academy website at www.berryacademy.net.
