The Georgia General Assembly will open their 2018 session on Monday at the State Capitol in Atlanta.

SLIGHTLY WARMER TEMPS EXPECTED FOR NEXT WEEKEND’S POLAR BEAR PADDLE

Organizers of the annual Polar Bear Paddle expect that outdoor temperatures during the event will not be subfreezing like they are now.  This year’s paddle will take place on Saturday, January 13th.  The six-mile trip down the Etowah River from Grizzard Park to Heritage Park in downtown Rome will be hosted by the Coosa River Basin Initiative along with Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful and the Rome-Floyd ECO Center.

FLOYD COUNTY STUDENT ARTWORK NOW ON DISPLAY AT THE ROME-FLOYD LIBRARY

The Floyd County Schools’ 2018 District Art Show is currently on display at the Rome-Floyd County Library on Riverside Parkway.  The annual exhibit of artwork created by students from kindergarten through 12th grade will be displayed by the library’s attendance area through February 28th, according to a school system release.

A PLETHORA OF EVENTS ON TAP LOCALLY FOR MLK WEEKEND

The slate of events to be held locally during the 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend has been announced.  The celebration will begin on Friday, January 12th and continue through MLK Day, Monday, January 15th.

BULL RIDING WILL RETURN TO THE FORUM RIVER CENTER THIS WEEKEND

Bull riding will return to the Forum River Center in downtown Rome this weekend as 4L & Diamond S Rodeo presents the 13th annual Three Rivers Invitational.  The event will take place on both Friday and Saturday nights; doors will open at 6 pm with bull riding to begin at 8 pm each night.

HODGE SWORN IN AS GNTC BOARD MEMBER

Al Hodge, President and CEO of the Rome-Floyd Chamber, was recently sworn in as a new member of the Georgia Northwestern Technical College Board of Directors, according to a GNTC media release.  Hodge and Robert “Rob” Bradham of Whifield County were sworn by GNTC President Pete McDonald at the college’s newest campus in Catoosa County.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TO AIR LOCALLY ON WLAQ

Tune in for the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game on WLAQ AM 1410 this Monday night!  WLAQ will have coverage from the Alabama Crimson Tide Sports Network as Alabama faces Georgia in a battle between SEC rivals for the national title.  The championship game is slated to begin at 8 pm at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
