CITY OF ROME RELEASES PROPOSED TAX MILLAGE RATE FOR ’18

The City of Rome has released the proposed tax millage rates for 2018.  The proposed combined rates for the city government and schools of 27.536 will result in no increase of millage rates from the prior year, according to a media release from the city, but will be 1.08 percent (.295 mills) over the calculated rollback rate of 27.241.

Georgia State Troopers are getting ready for the July 4th holiday travel period.  The 30-hour period begins this evening at 6 pm and will end at 11:59 pm on July 4th, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Yankees 5-3 in 11 innings on Monday night in the opener of a three-game set at Yankee Stadium, marking the fourth straight win for the Braves.

AAA:  GAS PRICES TO RISE BEFORE INDEPENDENCE DAY

Gas prices face upward pressure as Independence Day quickly approaches, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which has forecast that nearly 47 million Americans will travel for the holiday.  The 39.7 million travelers that will reach their respective destinations by automobile will find gas prices at 50-60 cents more than last year.

EARLY VOTING BEGINS TODAY FOR JULY 24TH RUN-OFF

Early voting begins today for the July 24th run-off election in Georgia.  Local voters may cast their ballots in advance each weekday from 8 am until 5 pm (except the 4th of July) through Friday, July 20th at the Floyd County Elections Office, located at the county’s Administration Building on East 4th Avenue in downtown Rome, or at Garden Lakes Baptist Church, 2200 Redmond Circle. Weekend voting will not be offered this time around.

BRAVES EARN SWEEP OF CARDINALS IN ST. LOUIS

The Atlanta Braves defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Busch Stadium, allowing the Braves to complete their first sweep at St. Louis since 2012.
