FALCONS OPEN REGULAR SEASON WITH LOSS AT PHILLY

The Atlanta Falcons opened their regular season with a loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles 18-12 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Thursday night.  The Falcons will play host to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, September 16th.

Participants are still being sought for the 24th annual Swing for the Kids Golf Classic, a benefit for the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth, scheduled for Friday at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome.  Registration is set for 8 am; the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 am.

BRAVES DROP HOMESTAND FINALE TO RED SOX

The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the Boston Red Sox 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Red Sox to sweep the series.  Thus ended a nine-game homestand that left Atlanta with three wins and six losses.
