BE A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN HOMETOWN DURING NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK!

This week, May 6th through 12th, is National Travel and Tourism Week.  The purpose of the observation is to encourage locals to become tourists in their own hometowns.  It is also an opportunity for those in the travel and tourism industry to celebrate the value that travel holds for the economy, businesses and personal well-being.  The theme for 2018 is “Then and Now”.

Several personnel changes for the 2018-2019 school year were approved on Tuesdayduring the Rome Board of Education’s monthly meeting.

HIGH TEMPS IN THE 90S THIS WEEKEND FOR GREATER ROME

Get ready to break out your shorts, if you haven’t already!  High temperatures are anticipated to be in the low 90s by this weekend, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service.  The heat will be accompanied by sunny skies.  High temperatures will continue to inch upwards through the mid to upper 80s during the remainder of this week; lows in the overnight hours will be in the low 60s.  A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms enters the forecast on Thursday; skies are anticipated to clear out by Friday night.

ATLANTA BRAVES BLANK TAMPA BAY RAYS

The Atlanta Braves shut out the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 on Tuesday night in the opener of a brief two-game interleague series at Tampa Bay, allowing Atlanta to snap a three-game losing skid.

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION, ROME BOE TO HOLD REGULAR MEETINGS TODAY

The Floyd County Commission will meet in regular session today.  They will hold a caucus session at 4:30 pm; it will be followed by their regular meeting at 6 pm at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  Both sessions are open to the public.

BRAVES TO FACE RAYS IN TAMPA

The Atlanta Braves were off on Monday and will return to action this evening with the opener of a brief two-game interleague series in Tampa Bay, Florida versus the Rays.  Sean Newcomb will serve as the starting pitcher for Atlanta, while Blake Snell will head to the mound for Tampa Bay.  First pitch is slated for 7:10 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is set for 5:55 pm from the Braves Radio Network.
