The Atlanta Braves blanked the New York Mets 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a brief two-game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Braves to sweep the series between the National League East rivals.

Mike Mathews, manager of the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field, will soon leave Floyd County to take a new job as the Director of the Athens-Ben Epps Airport.  He will assume his new post with the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government on July 9th, 2018, according to Manager Blaine Williams (who previously served as County Manager for Floyd County).

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION, ROME CITY SCHOOL BOARD TO HOLD REGULAR MEETINGS TODAY

The Floyd County Commission will meet in regular session today.  They’ll gather for a caucus session at 4:30 pm; that will be followed by their regular meeting at 6 pm at the county’s Administration Building located on East 4th Avenue in downtown Rome.  Both are open to the public.

FLOYD COUNTY JUVENILE COURT JUDGE GREG PRICE HONORED WITH ‘LOVETT AWARD’ BY STATE BAR

Floyd County Juvenile Court Judge Greg Price has been named the State Bar of Georgia’s “Lovett Award” winner for this year by the organization’s Child Protection and Advocacy Section.  He was bestowed the honor last Friday at the Georgia Bar’s Annual Meeting at Amelia Island.

The Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home has teamed up with the Rome-Floyd ECO River Education Center and the Rome Braves to offer two days of family fun and river discovery.  “River Quest” is slated for this Saturday, June 16th and again on Saturday, July 14th.  Activities will be held from 9 am until 1 pm both days.
