Keep those umbrellas handy over the weekend. A chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast through Monday; the greatest chance of precipitation is expected on Saturday night and into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a bit of a cool down expected towards the end of the weekend; high temperatures in the 80s today and Saturday will drop into the upper 60s by Sunday.
The Atlanta Braves were edged by the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Thursday night in the finale of the Braves’ first-ever opening homestand at SunTrust Park, allowing the Nationals to sweep the three-game series between the teams.
The Atlanta Hawks will host the Washington Wizards on Saturday in game three of the teams’ opening round NBA playoff series. Tip off is slated for 5:30 pm at the Philips Arena.
The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the state’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 5.1 percent last month, down from 5.3 percent in February and from 5.5 percent in March 2016. This is the lowest that the rate has been since December 2007, the beginning of the Great Recession.
The observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month continues throughout April. A multitude of activities are being held locally to raise awareness of the issue of sexual assault; the slate is organized by the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia.
