ARF TO BENEFIT FROM ‘NO BONEZ ABOUT IT’ BBQ AND MUSIC FESTIVAL SET FOR SATURDAY

ARF – Animal Rescue Foundation of Rome/Floyd County, Inc. will benefit from the “No Bonez About It” BBQ and Music Festival scheduled for this Saturday, June 24th from 11 am until 5 pm at the Rome Senior Center, located at 408 Riverside Parkway in Rome.

Paddle Georgia 2017 is officially underway!  The 106-mile canoe and kayak trip down the Etowah River began on Saturday.  It will end with a celebration at Heritage Park in downtown Rome this Friday.

The Atlanta Braves edged the Miami Marlins 5-4 on Sunday in the finale of a three game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Braves to take the series 2-1 on back-to-back walk-off wins.

Have you been thinking about opening your home to a new furry family member?  Have your kids been ‘dogging’ you for a new puppy or kitty?  Then maybe it’s time to pay a visit to PAWS (aka Floyd County Animal Control).  The 2013 SPLOST-funded facility opened at its new North Avenue location nearly sixth months ago.  It is currently bursting at the seams with cats, according to director Jason Broome, who adds that adoption fees are $35 for cats and $40 dogs.

HUFSTETLER NAMED TO SENATE SPECIAL TAX EXEMPTION STUDY COMMITTEE

Senator Chuck Hufstetler of Rome has been appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle to serve as a member of the Senate Special Tax Exemption Study Committee, according to a media release from the Georgia Senate Press Office.

ATLANTA BRAVES TO HOST MIAMI MARLINS THIS WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves were off on Thursday night and will return to action this weekend with a three-game set versus the Miami Marlins at SunTrust Park.  Sean Newcomb will get his second major league start for Atlanta in tonight’s series opener, while Dan Straily will serve as the starting pitcher for Miami.  First pitch is set for 7:35 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 6:20 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.

LOUDERMILK COMMENTS ON SHOOTING AT CONGRESSIONAL BASEBALL PRACTICE

Congressman Barry Loudermilk, who represents Georgia’s 11th Congressional District in the US House of Representatives, was among those present on Wednesday morning when a gunman opened fire at a congresssional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of Washington DC.  The shooting left Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana in critical condition; several others were injured.
