SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, SLIGHT COOL DOWN AHEAD

Keep those umbrellas handy over the weekend.  A chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast through Monday; the greatest chance of precipitation is expected on Saturday night and into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.  There is also a bit of a cool down expected towards the end of the weekend; high temperatures in the 80s today and Saturday will drop into the upper 60s by Sunday.

BRAVES SWEPT BY NATS AT SUNTRUST PARK

The Atlanta Braves were edged by the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Thursday night in the finale of the Braves’ first-ever opening homestand at SunTrust Park, allowing the Nationals to sweep the three-game series between the teams.

HAWKS TO CONTINUE PLAYOFF SERIES VERSUS WIZARDS IN ATLANTA ON SATURDAY

The Atlanta Hawks will host the Washington Wizards on Saturday in game three of the teams’ opening round NBA playoff series.  Tip off is slated for 5:30 pm at the Philips Arena.

UNEMPLOYMENT DECLINES IN GEORGIA FOR MARCH

The Georgia Department of Labor has reported that the state’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 5.1 percent last month, down from 5.3 percent in February and from 5.5 percent in March 2016.  This is the lowest that the rate has been since December 2007, the beginning of the Great Recession.

The observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month continues throughout  April.  A multitude of activities are being held locally to raise awareness of the issue of sexual assault; the slate is organized by the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia.

SENIOR INFORUM IS LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!

The 29th annual Senior Inforum is less than a week away!  The event will be held next Wednesday, April 26th at the Thornton Recreation Center located at North Floyd Park.  Tickets are $5 and must be purchased in advance at the Charles C. Parker Center, 1325 Kingston Road.

FREEMAN MAKES HISTORY AS BRAVES FALL TO NATIONALS

WIZARDS TAKE 2-0 LEAD IN PLAYOFF SERIES WITH HAWKS

The Atlanta Hawks fell to the Washington Wizards 109-101 in game two of the teams’ first round NBA playoff series on Wednesday night in Washington DC, allowing the Wizards to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
