ROME-FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2019

Written by Matt Davis on December 7, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

The Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth eagerly awaits 2019.  The organization will celebrate a milestone next year – it will be their 30th anniversary of service to youth and families in the community. Carol Willis, Executive Director, says that since it began in 1989, RFCCCY’s main focus has been to collaborate with local agencies to ensure that children and families in Floyd County thrive.  The collaborative works to identify and overcome obstacles to their success. The commission arose from the passage of HB 789 by the Georgia General Assembly in ’89. Willis urges those who would like to get on board with the RFCCCY mission to contact her at (706) 766-8880 or carol.willis@comcast.net.

CONSUMER ALERT FROM FLOYD MEDICAL CENTER!

Written by Matt Davis on December 7, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

Here’s a consumer alert from Floyd Medical Center – if you purchase health care coverage via the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, also known as “The Exchange”, you are limited to one plan if you want to receive care at most of Floyd’s locations in 2019. According to an FMC release, recent changes in the market have limited the number of health care Marketplace insurers in Floyd, Chattooga and Polk Counties to only two options.  Of those two, only Alliant SoloCare has opted to have Floyd Medical Center, Floyd Primary Care, Floyd Urgent Care and Willowbrooke in their network for the coming year. This alert is particularly important for women who plan to give birth in 2019 and wish to have their baby at Floyd Medical Center, says Greg Polley, Vice President.  Expectant parents or those who plan to have a baby next year need to choose an Alliant SoloCare health plan on the Marketplace to ensure their hospital obstetrical services are covered. If there is any chance that you will need emergency care, surgery, urgent care, or even a visit to a Floyd Primary Care physician next year, you should also take your Exchange insurance selection into careful consideration. Polley attests, “It is unfortunate that there is only one option on the Exchange that is in network at Floyd Medical Center, Floyd Primary Care and Willowbrooke at Floyd.  It is also unfortunate that Floyd is unable to affect this decision.” The deadline to sign up for health insurance in the federal Marketplace is set for December 15th.  Individuals who need to purchase insurance or change a decision in the Health Care Marketplace should call 1-800-318-2596 or visit www.healthcare.gov.  Consumers should also note that a change in network coverage is not considered a qualifying life event that merits changing plans after January 1st.

Holiday festivities will once again abound for locals and visitors to Rome and Floyd County over the weekend. Enjoy the sounds of the season at “Christmas Back Home” scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at the Rome City Auditorium. Show time is 7 pm both of those nights.  Local favorites Scott Thompson and Brent McDonald will team up with some of their friends to perform holiday classics with a twist. A second night was added for this second edition of “Christmas Back Home” in order to accommodate busy schedules, says Thompson, who enthuses that he and McDonald will be joined onstage by an eight piece band.  Their show, he adds, will be ‘all over the map’ musically.  Proceeds from the event will go back to a local charity. Local middle school singers will open the show on Friday night, while Rome Middle School singers will open Saturday night’s show. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Purchase your tickets and get information about the event at www.christmasbackhome.com. The Rome Little Theatre’s holiday production of “Scrooge, the Musical” will take the stage at the DeSoto Theatre on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and this Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm.  This marks the show’s final weekend.  Tickets cost $16 for adults, $14 for students and seniors and $12 for children and groups. Get tickets and more information at www.romelittletheatre.org or by calling the RLT Box Office at (706) 295-7171.  Those ticket prices do not include tax or processing fees.
