Country music legend Glen Campbell passed away at the age of 81 on Tuesday after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Tuesday night in the opener of a brief two-game set at SunTrust Park, allowing Philadelphia to improve to 10-2 in the season series between the teams.

MOTHER OF MURDERED TODDLER SENTENCED TO PRISON

The mother of a toddler that was murdered almost four years ago has been sentenced to prison.  Kayla Medckie was sentenced in Floyd County Superior Court on Monday to 10 years, four behind bars and the rest on probation, on a charge of second degree cruelty to children.  Medckie was the mother of 3-year-old Ella Camp, who was beaten to death by Medckie’s boyfriend David Zachary Gresham in September 2013.  Gresham is serving life without parole for murder in connection with the case.

Keep an umbrella handy this week.  A chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast through early next week, as predicted by the National Weather Service.  High temperatures will hover around the low to mid 80s during that time.  A few strong storms are possible, according to a special weather statement from the NWS; the primary concerns over the next few days will be gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.  Localized flooding is also possible due to saturated grounds.

ATLANTA BRAVES TO HOST PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES TONIGHT

The Atlanta Braves were off on Monday and will continue their current eight game homestand with a brief two-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies over the next couple of nights at SunTrust Park.  Julio Teheran is slated to serve as the starting pitcher for Atlanta in tonight’s opener.  First pitch is set for 7:35 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time from the Braves Radio Network is 6:20 pm.

GEORGIA TECH MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH IN ROME TONIGHT

AAA:  GAS PRICES CONTINUE TO CLIMB

Gas prices are, for the most part, climbing across the country, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which reports that the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia averaged $2.23 on Sunday after rising five cents over the past week.
