BRAVES TOP CARDS IN SUNDAY OUTING AT ST. LOUIS

The Atlanta Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game set at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, ending a five-game losing streak for the Braves and an eight-game winning streak for the Cards.

PROJECT LIST FINALIZED FOR SPLOST TO GO BEFORE VOTERS THIS FALL

The 2017 Floyd County SPLOST Committee has finalized a list of projects to be included in a Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax that will be put before voters in November.  According to this morning’s Rome News-Tribune, the package is worth $63.8 million.  If approved by voters, the one-cent sales tax would take effect upon the expiration of the current SPLOST on March 31, 2019.

FLOYD GOP RALLY SET FOR SATURDAY

The Floyd County Republican Party will hold its annual GOP Rally this Saturday in the Tillman Hangar at the Russell Regional Airport in Rome.  Activities will commence at 10 am.

RIDGE FERRY FILMS EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 23

Due to ground saturation and inclement weather, the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Department has made the decision to postpone their Ridge Ferry Films event that was scheduled for this evening until September 23rd.

FALCONS OPEN PRE-SEASON WITH LOSS TO DOLPHINS, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE ACTION ON AIR TONIGHT

The Atlanta Falcons opened the NFL pre-season with a loss to the Miami Dolphins 23-20 on Thursday night in Miami, Florida.  The Falcons blew a 20-10 fourth-quarter lead en route to the loss.  They’ll return to action on Sunday, August 20th in Pittsburgh against the Steelers.

ATLANTA BRAVES IN ST. LOUIS THIS WEEKEND, ROME BRAVES TO PLAY DOUBLE HEADER TONIGHT

The Atlanta Braves were off on Thursday and will return to action tonight with the first of three games in St. Louis, Missouri against the Cardinals.  Mike Foltynewicz will serve as the starting pitcher for Atlanta, while Adam Wainwright will head to the mound for St. Louis.  The series opener is slated to get underway at 8:15 pm and will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 7 pm from the Braves Radio Network.

FLOYD COUNTY SPLOST COMMITTEE HOPES TO FINALIZE PROJECT LIST THIS EVENING

The 2017 Floyd County SPLOST Committee will gather this evening at the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department Headquarters located at 409 East 12th Street.  Committee members hope to finalize a list of projects to be included in a Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax to be put before voters this November.  The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 pm.

NAMI ROME OFFERS SUPPORT GROUPS, CLASSES TO THOSE CHALLENGED BY MENTAL ILLNESS

The Rome chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness would like to remind local residents that you are not alone if you or someone you love struggles with mental illness.  The organization offers a variety of support groups free of charge to communities within its service area.
