ATLANTA BRAVES’ WINNING STREAK ENDS WITH LOSS TO SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

The Atlanta Braves fell to the San Francisco Giants 6-3 on Tuesday night in game two of a four game set at SunTrust Park, ending a three-game winning streak for the Braves.

SALLY LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME ENDS IN A TIE

In a minor league update, the 2017 South Atlantic League All-Star Game ended in a 3-3 tie at Columbia, South Carolina (home of the Fireflies) on Tuesday night.  The Rome Braves’ Randy Ventura drove in the tying run; it was a tie never to be broken as the game was called in the middle of the eighth due to rain.  The Sally League All-Star break continues; the Rome Braves will begin their second half of the season on Thursday night with a match in Asheville, North Carolina versus the Tourists.

Local youngsters are enjoying the summer camp experience in 2017, thanks to a wealth of offerings from Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.  This week’s slate of summer camps involve Gymnastics and All-Sports, according to parks and rec director Kevin Cowling, who adds that last week’s Nerf & Lego Camp was a big hit among participants.

For those of you who have grown weary of the political ads for Karen Handel and John Ossoff that have inundated the Atlanta market in recent days, you are about to get a reprieve.  The 6th Congressional District race is slated to be determined via a special election today.  Handel is running on the Republican ticket, while Ossoff is the Democratic candidate for the post vacated by Tom Price upon his appointment by President Donald Trump as US Secretary of Health and Human Services.

ATLANTA BRAVES BLANK SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

The Atlanta Braves blanked the San Francisco Giants 9-0 on Monday night in the opener of a four game set at SunTrust Park.  It marked the third straight victory for the Braves.

SALLY LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME IS TONIGHT

Tonight’s the night of the 2017 South Atlantic League All-Star Game!  The Rome Braves will send a total of five players to participate on the Southern Division roster, including Brandon White, Bryse Wilson, Cristian Pache, Randy Ventura and Brett Cumberland.  First pitch is set for 7:05 pm in Columbia, South Carolina, home of the Fireflies.

AAA:  GAS PRICES CONTINUE TO PLUNGE, FLIRT WITH 2017 LOWS

Motorists are currently finding some of the lowest gas prices of the year, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which anticipates that gas prices in Georgia should hit their lowest point of 2017 early this week.  Sunday’s state average of $2.16 was just fractions of a penny above this year’s lowest price of $2.157 set on March 27th.
