BRAVES OPEN INTERLEAGUE SET WITH WIN OVER BLUE JAYS

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 11-4 on Tuesday night in the opener of a two-game interleague series at Toronto.

FRIDAY SHOOTING VICTIM DIES FROM HER INJURIES

The victim of a Friday night shooting has died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident.  Debbie Burnett, Assistant Chief of the Rome Police, reported on Monday that Crystal Dawn Vega died as a result of a gunshot wound, and her body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.  Nakotah Smith has been listed as a person of interest by investigators; he is also suspected in a burglary at Vega’s home on Sunday.

The heat is on in Northwest Georgia!  High temperatures are expected to be around 93 today with heat index values of 98, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service.  Skies will be mostly sunny and accompanied by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

ATLANTA BRAVES IN TORONTO TO FACE THE BLUE JAYS

The Atlanta Braves were off on Monday and will return to action this evening with the first of two interleague games in Toronto versus the Blue Jays.  Mike Soroka (a native of Canada) will serve as Atlanta’s starting pitcher, and Jaime Garcia will head to the mound for Toronto. First pitch is slated for 7:07 pm at the Rogers Centre.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 5:50 pm from the Braves Radio Network.

AAA:  MOTORISTS ARE GETTING RELIEF FROM HIGH PRICES AT THE GAS PUMP

Motorists are getting some relief from high prices at the pump, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group.  Sunday’s national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.90, marking a decline of seven cents since Memorial Day weekend.

CYCLE THERAPY ENTERS FINAL DAYS IN BUSINESS AT ROME’S CENTRAL PLAZA

After 11 years in business, Cycle Therapy will officially close this Thursday, June 21st.  The owners of the bicycle shop, currently located at Central Plaza in Rome, have decided to pursue other opportunities.

ROME CITY COMMISSION MEETS THIS EVENING

The Rome City Commission will meet this evening.  They will hold a caucus session at 5 pm, to be followed by their meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium) on Broad Street.  Both are open to the public.
