ROME BRAVES FALL TO CHARLESTON RIVERDOGS IN SERIES CLOSER AT SMS

The Rome Braves fell to the Charleston Riverdogs 7-5 yesterday in the series closer between the teams at State Mutual Stadium.  That left the Braves with only one win and three losses in their series with the Riverdogs.

ATLANTA BRAVES COMPLETE THREE GAME SWEEP OF MILWAUKEE BREWERS AT ‘THE TED’

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 yesterday at Turner Field to allow the Braves to kick off their 2012 home opening series with a three game sweep of the Brewers.  Yesterday’s game was full of highlights for the Braves, including a three run homer from Chipper Jones in the bottom of the third inning.

ATLANTA HAWKS DOWNED BY TORONTO RAPTORS AT HOME

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks lost to the Toronto Raptors 102-86 last night at the Philips Arena.  The Hawks and the Raptors played on the Hawks’ home court last night; they’ll head to Toronto to play on the Raptors’ home court tonight.  Tip off is set for 7 pm.

COLLEGE BASEBALL WEEKEND UPDATE: SHORTER SWEEPS BELHAVEN AT HOME, BERRY SWEPT BY TOCCOA FALLS ON THE ROAD

In your local college baseball update, Shorter University swept Belhaven in a three game series over the weekend.  The Hawks won Friday’s game 7-2 and both games of Saturday’s double header, 5-1 and 9-2 at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex on the Shorter University campus.  They’ll be in Montgomery, Alabama for a three game series with Faulkner this coming weekend.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL: SHORTER SWEEPS, BERRY SPLITS AT HOME OVER THE WEEKEND

Shorter University’s Lady Hawks softball team had a victorious weekend.  They swept Emmanuel in a double header 10-0 and 8-0 on Friday, which was followed by a double header sweep of Southern Wesleyan 9-0 and 5-0 on Saturday at the Alto Park Softball Complex.  The Lady Hawks will travel to Cleveland, Tennessee for a double header with Lee tomorrow at 3 pm.

JOGGING FOR JUSTICE TO BENEFIT SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTER OF NORTHWEST GEORGIA SET FOR TOMORROW

The Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia will benefit from the Jogging for Justice 5K and Health Walk tomorrow (Saturday, April 14th) on the campus of Shorter University.  Registration begins at 7 am on the hill, with the 5K and Health Walk to begin at 8 am.  The cost to participate is $25.

RELAY FOR LIFE AT RIDGE FERRY PARK TONIGHT

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is set for this evening at Ridge Ferry Park.  The walk will begin at 6 pm and continue thru 6 am tomorrow morning.  Cancer survivors are urged to participate and are asked to arrive at 4 pm today.  For more information, go to www.floydrelayforlife.org.

NOW THAT SANTORUM’S OUT, TEA PARTIERS CONSIDER BACKING ROMNEY

In the world of politics – the news came earlier this week that Rick Santorum has suspended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.  Mike Morton with the Rome TEA Party was a supporter of Rick Santorum.  He says that Santorum ran a good campaign, but now it is time to get behind the apparent front runner in the race for the Republican nomination for President, Mitt Romney.
