ROME BRAVES LOSE 12-INNING HEARTBREAKER TO SAVANNAH SAND GNATS AT SMS

The Rome Braves lost a heartbreaker to the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-5 in 12 innings last night at State Mutual Stadium in the series opener between the teams that was delayed nearly an hour due to rainy conditions.  Rome Braves radio voice JB Smith has the wrap up.

ATLANTA HAWKS TOP TORONTO RAPTORS ON THE ROAD

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks beat the Toronto Raptors 109-87 last night in Toronto (after losing to the Raptors at home on Sunday night).  The Hawks will return to their home court at the Philips Arena in Atlanta to host the Detroit Pistons tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET TONIGHT; NEW COMMISSIONER SOON TO BE CHOSEN

APRIL IS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Victims in Northwest Georgia have an advocate with the Sexual Assault Center of NWGA.  Executive Director Kim Davis says that her organization provides a number of services, including advocacy and support.

ARMUCHEE HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR WINS NATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST

An Armuchee High School junior has won a national essay contest sponsored by the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America.  In his essay, Bennett Garland addressed the relevance today of Abraham Lincoln’s statement, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
