JUNE FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT TO FEATURE INFINITY SHOW BAND

The next installment in the 2012 First Friday concert series is coming up this Friday, June 1st.  The Infinity Show Band will entertain those in attendance at the concert, which will get underway at 7 pm at Bridgepoint Plaza in downtown Rome.  Infinity Show Band plays a variety of music, from Motown to rhythm and blues and contemporary.  In the event of rain, the June First Friday concert will be moved to the Rome City Auditorium.

ROME BRAVES, KANNAPOLIS INTIMIDATORS TAKE TUESDAY NIGHT OFF DUE TO RAIN, TWIN BILL SET FOR TODAY IN KANNAPOLIS

The Rome Braves’ game against the Kannapolis Intimidators scheduled for last night has been postponed due to rain in Kannapolis, North Carolina.  It will be made up as part of a double header today at 10:05 am.  Two seven inning games will make up the early Education Day twin bill in Kannapolis.  That will close out a three game series between the teams.  From there, the Rome Braves will head to Lexington, Kentucky for a four game series with the Legends tomorrow night thru Sunday.

ATLANTA BRAVES SNAP LOSING STREAK WITH WIN OVER ST. LOUIS CARDINALS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves snapped an eight game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals last night at Turner Field.

FIFTEEN LIVES LOST ON GEORGIA’S ROADS OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Fifteen people were killed on Georgia’s roads over the Memorial Day  holiday travel period, according to totals from all law enforcement agencies statewide.  The 78-hour holiday travel period got underway at 6 pm on Friday evening and ended at midnight last night.  The Georgia State Patrol recorded some 332 traffic crashes with 196 injuries and six fatalities.  There was one fatality reported in Troop A, which covers Northwest Georgia.  It came from state troopers in LaFayette.

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVED NATIONWIDE, KICKS OFF SUMMER

Of course, yesterday was Memorial Day, and our nation’s fallen soldiers were honored by folks all around the country and right here in Northwest Georgia.  Memorial Day is formerly known as Decoration Day, and it is a holiday that originated after the American Civil War as a day to honor Union soldiers that died in that war.  By the 20th century, the observance grew to include soldiers that died in all wars.

ROME TEA PARTY TO HOST FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CANDIDATE FORUM ON THURSDAY EVENING

The Rome TEA Party will host a Floyd County Commissioners Candidate Forum this Thursday, May 31st from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm at the Charles Parker Senior Center at 1395 Kingston Highway in Rome.  All County Commission candidates that qualified by last Friday’s deadline have been invited.  Mike Morton says that all six candidates have confirmed their plans to be in attendance, including Irwin Bagwell, Garry Fricks, Jerry Lee, Larry Maxey, Nathan Roberts and Rhonda Wallace.

FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOLS SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM BEGINS TODAY

Now that school’s out for local students, many parents are wondering how to make sure their kids have nutritious meals over the summer.  The US Department of Agriculture is partnering with local communities to serve free meals for children, and the Floyd County Schools are teaming with local churches and organizations to meet the needs of area children.

ROME BRAVES OPEN ROAD TRIP WITH LOSS TO KANNAPOLIS INTIMIDATORS

The Rome Braves were defeated by the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-4 in a Memorial Day evening game to open up a three game series in Kannapolis, North Carolina (and a seven game road trip).
