ROME BRAVES BACK IN ACTION AT STATE MUTUAL STADIUM TONIGHT

The Rome Braves were off yesterday and get back into action tonight with a six game home stand at State Mutual Stadium that will continue thru Sunday and will bring to the Greenville Drive and the Augusta Greenjackets to town, each for three games.  Game one against the Drive is set for tonight at 7 pm and will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and www.theridge957.com.  Rome Braves radio voice JB Smith will go on the air with the pre-game show at 6:45 pm.

ATLANTA BRAVES GOING FISHIN’ IN MIAMI; THREE GAME SERIES AGAINST MARLINS TO BEGIN TONIGHT

The Atlanta Braves were off yesterday and return to action in their current road trip with three games against the Miami Marlins in Miami, Florida tonight thru Thursday night.  Tim Hudson is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Braves tonight.  First pitch is set for 7:10 pm at Miami’s new Marlins Park.  The game will be broadcast on the AM 1410 WLAQ, Rome’s original home for Atlanta Braves baseball.  Air time for the pre-game show is 5:55 pm from the Atlanta Braves radio network.

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET THIS EVENING

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session this evening.  They’ll meet in a caucus session at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall on Broad Street in downtown Rome.  Commissioners are expected to decide tonight whether or not they will uphold the recommendation from Rome’s Alcohol Control Commission for three-day suspensions of four stores caught selling to minors during a recent undercover operation by Rome police.  Those stores include Tazo Food Mart, Coastal Food Mart, Kroger and Super Food Market.  Take a look at the Rome City Commission’s full agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.

RAINY START TO WORK WEEK IN ROME

Romans awoke to a wet start to this work week.  The National Weather Service predicts a 90 percent chance of occasional showers and thunderstorms, mostly before 2 pm.  New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible.  Highs will be around 85.  Tonight’s forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly cloudy skies and lows around 65.  New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms are predicted by the NWS for tonight.  A slight chance of showers hovers in the forecast for the early part of the week, which is expected to give way to sunshine by the end of the week.

SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS NOT JUST FOR SPRING TIME

People tend to think about severe weather preparedness during the spring time, but strong storms can strike in the summer.  Rome Fire Department fire safety educator Daniel Carpenter says its wise to be prepared for severe weather, even in the summer time.  He says that there are some supplies that you should store in the event of severe weather.  Those include bottled water, non perishable food items, a flash light and a first aid kit.

ROME BRAVES FALL TO LEXINGTON LEGENDS IN SERIES CLOSER

The Rome Braves remain winless for the month of June as they lost to the Lexington Legends 4-1 yesterday afternoon in the series closer between the teams in Lexington, Kentucky.

ATLANTA BRAVES FINALLY GET WIN OVER WASHINGTON NATIONALS IN DC!

Finally!  A win for the Atlanta Braves over the Washington Nationals!  The Braves beat the Nationals 3-2 yesterday afternoon in the series closer between the teams in Washington, DC.  Tommy Hanson got the win for the Braves; though he gave up two home runs in the first inning, he maintained his focus and only gave up those two runs, six hits and no walks in seven innings of work.  Craig Kimbrel got the save in yesterday’s game, his 16th of the season.

FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT SET FOR TONIGHT, RAIN OR SHINE

Rain or shine, make your plans to attend the June First Friday concert TONIGHT!  This month’s concert will feature the music of the Infinity Show Band and is set to get underway at 7 pm at Bridgepoint Plaza.  In the event of rain, the concert will be moved to the Rome City Auditorium, according to Rome Downtown Development Authority Director Ann Arnold.  She says that a decision will be made by noon today.
