RNC KICKS OFF BUSY TIME FOR US SENATOR JOHNNY ISAKSON

US Senator Johnny Isakson will be in Tampa, Florida this week for the Republican National Convention.  He said in an interview on WLAQ’s Good Morning Rome late last week that he’s looking forward to welcoming the Romney/Ryan ticket to the South.

ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET THIS EVENING

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session this evening.  They’ll convene in a caucus session at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium) on Broad Street in downtown Rome.  Take a look at their agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.

FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION TO MEET TOMORROW

The Floyd County Commission will meet tomorrow.  Commissioners will gather for a caucus session at 4 pm to be followed by their regular meeting at 6 pm at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome.  You can view their agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL EXPECTED BY AAA TO BE UP THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Labor Day is one week from today.  AAA Travel expects travel to be up by 2.9 percent over the holiday weekend.  According to a AAA release, 33 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Labor Day holiday weekend, a 2.9 increase from the 32.1 million that traveled last year.  The Labor Day holiday travel period is defined by AAA as Thursday, August 30th thru Monday, September 3rd.  

ROME BRAVES CLOSE OUT SERIES IN SAVANNAH IN VICTORIOUS FASHION OVER SAND GNATS

The Rome Braves beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 4-3 in the closer of a four game series yesterday at Savannah’s Grayson Stadium.  

ATLANTA BRAVES TOP SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS IN SUNDAY NIGHT OUTING, SETTLE FOR SPLIT IN SAN FRAN

The Atlanta Braves closed out a four game series in San Francisco against the Giants with a 7-1 victory last night, allowing the teams to split the series at two games apiece.  Tim Hudson got the win for the Braves; he gave up just one run and five hits in seven innings.  

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON BEGINS!!!

High school football has made its grand return to Northwest Georgia.   Darlington fell to Christian Academy 42-23 in Knoxville, Tennessee in the Tigers’ regular season opener on Saturday night.  Unity Christian School lost to New Creation Christian 21-0 on the road on Friday night.
WLAQ AM 1410 will have all the action this Friday night as Darlington heads to Cartersville to take on the Purple Hurricanes.   

ATLANTA FALCONS PICK UP FIRST NFL PRE-SEASON WIN OF 2012 TONIGHT OVER MIAMI DOLPHINS IN MIAMI; REGULAR SEASON RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

The Atlanta Falcons picked up their first pre-season win for 2012 over the Miami Dolphins 23-6 on Friday night in Miami, Florida.  The Falcons will play their final NFL pre-season game of the year this Thursday night in Jacksonville against the Jaguars.  Kick off is set for 6:30 pm.
