MISSING CHATTOOGA COUNTY GIRL FOUND

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department’s search for a missing girl came to an end yesterday as the girl was reportedly found.  Macy Ann Hunt, age 14, had been missing since last Friday, June 1st.  The girl has been diagnosed as severely bi-polar and off her meds at the time of her disappearance.  Officers with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department says that she was found ‘alive and kicking’ yesterday.

BELL TREE BENEFIT TO SUPPORT LOCAL FILMMAKING EFFORT

Local history buffs and fans of independent films are being urged to support a locally made documentary film entitled Blind Tiger, The Legend of Bell Tree Smith and can do so by attending the Bell Tree Benefit next Thursday evening, June 14th.  The event will be held from 6:30 pm until 9 pm at the Rome Area History Museum on Broad Street.  It is being sponsored by the museum and the Rome Area Council for the Arts.

AUTHORITIES TRYING TO DETERMINE CA– USE OF DEATH IN WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WRECK

A Rome man was killed yesterday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck on East 17th Street near Dean Avenue. Officials are not positive that the wreck caused the death.  Will Carmichael, age 84 and of a South Broad Street address, was pronounced dead at Floyd Medical Center’s Emergency Room just before 6 pm.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY NAMES HARPER DEAN OF SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

Dr. Norma Harper has been named Dean of the School of Education at Shorter University.  According to a Shorter University media release, Dr. Harper comes to Shorter from Charleston Southern University, where she serves as Professor and Dean of the School of Education.  She has been dean at Charleston Southern since 2009.  Prior to that, she served as the university’s Director of Undergraduate Studies in Education from 2007 to 2009.  She has also taught at Brewton-Parker College, the University of Montevallo, Judson College, Alabama State University and the University of Alabama.  She also has six years of experience as a high school teacher.

The Rome Braves picked up their second win in a row over the Greenville Drive 15-5 last night at State Mutual Stadium.

ATLANTA BRAVES TOP MIAMI MARLINS FOR THE SECOND NIGHT IN A ROW IN MIAMI

The Atlanta Braves once again defeated the Miami Marlins 2-1 last night in game two of a three game series in Miami, Florida.  That marks the Braves’ third win in a row.  Randall Delgado got the win for the Braves after allowing only one run on two hits in six and one-third innings of work.  Craig Kimbrel got the save, his 17th of the season.

COOSA’S MITCHELL SELECTED BY WASHINGTON NATIONALS

A Coosa High School baseball standout has been selected by the Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball’s First-Year player draft.  Mitchell Williams, a catcher, was selected in the 39th round on the third and final day of the draft yesterday.  Mitchell, who had already signed to play baseball at the Marion Institute, will now have to decide if he’s joining the Nationals or going to play college ball.
