FLOYD GOP HEADQUARTERS TO OPEN FOR ELECTION RESULTS TONIGHT

FLOYD COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT TO HOLD METH AWARENESS SEMINAR

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department will host a Meth Awareness Seminar at the Forum in downtown Rome on Wednesday, August 8th at 6 pm.  Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter says this is the fifth in a series of programs about meth awareness.  It is free and open to the public.

ROME BRAVES SHUT OUT AUGUSTA GREENJACKETS IN SERIES OPENER AT SMS

The Rome Braves shut out the Augusta Greenjackets 6-0 last night in the opener of a four game series between the teams at State Mutual Stadium, marking the Braves’ eighth straight victory.  Highlights of the game included a two-run homer from Chase Anselment, his third homer in the last two games.  AJ Holland got the win for the Braves, while David Filak got the save.  Edwin Escobar took the loss for the Greenjackets.

ATLANTA BRAVES PICK UP FIRST MONDAY NIGHT VICTORY OF THE SEASON OVER MIAMI MARLINS AT TURNER FIELD

The Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 8-2 last night in the series opener between the teams at Turner Field.  That was the first victory on a Monday for the Braves since August 22, 2011.  Tommy Hanson got the win for Atlanta; there were some great defensive moves on the part of the Braves that also aided in their victory.

ELECTION DAY IS TOMORROW

Tomorrow is the date of the July 31st primary election.  Polls will open at 7 am and remain open until 7 pm.  Voters will determine the fate of the transportation referendum, or T-SPLOST, as well as choose who will fill a number of state and local seats.

APPLICATIONS SOUGHT FOR LITTLE MISS BREANNA SIDS AWARENESS PAGEANT

Applications are being accepted for the Little Miss Breanna SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Awareness Pageant.  The event is set for Saturday, August 11th at 4 pm at Belle Terra in Cave Spring.  The application deadline is August 1st.  Age groups are 0-15.

LOCAL STUDENTS TO SOON HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL

August is right around the corner.  That means back-to-school time!  The Rome City Schools will begin the 2012-2013 school year this Wednesday, August 1st.  The first day of classes for the Floyd County Schools is August 8th, which is also the first day back for St. Mary’s School.  Unity Christian School’s students head back to class on August 6th.  Darlington School’s first day of school is August 20th, while Berry Elementary and Middle School go back to school on August 10th.
