In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks continue a five-game road trip with a stop in Portland, Oregon to take on the Trailblazers tomorrow night at 10 pm.  The Hawks currently possess a 19 wins – 12 losses record overall for the 2011-2012 season with ten wins and five losses on the road.

SCOGGINS TO REMAIN AS ADMINISTRATOR AT POLK MEDICAL CENTER

Floyd Medical Center President and CEO Kurt Stuenkel has announced that Kimberly J. Scoggins, RN, MSN, will continue on in her role as administrator of Polk Medical Center when the hospital in Cedartown becomes affiliated with Floyd, according to an FMC media release.  The lease agreement between Floyd Healthcare Management Inc. and the Cedartown-Polk Hospital Authority takes effect on April 1st.  

NET TAX COLLECTIONS UP IN GEORGIA IN JANUARY

Governor Nathan Deal has announced that Georgia’s net tax collections for the month of January 2012 totaled $1.57 billion, an increase of $11 million or 0.7 percent compared to January 2011.  Through seven months of FY2012, net revenue collections totaled $9.8 billion year-to-date, an increase of $240 million or 4.5 percent compared to the same year-to-date period last year, according to a release from the Governor’s office.

ACADEMIC GOALS WITH PADDLE ON THE ETOWAH RIVER

A Model High School senior is combining her passion and her academic goals to earn an honor seal on her diploma.  Lauren Carroll has organized a benefit paddle on the Etowah River to raise funds for the Coosa River Basin Initiative and to satisfy requirements for her Honors Prep senior project, according to a Floyd County Schools media release.  The event is set for Saturday, March 17th.  It will begin near the YMCA soccer and baseball field complex on the Rome bypass near the Etowah River.  It will end at the landing behind the levee in downtown Rome.  Registration will begin at 9 am.  Participants can get a t-shirt for the event for $10 each and $15 for a tie-dye t-shirt.  You must pre-register by February 29th to get a t-shirt.  The paddle will last from 10 am until around noon.  Lunch will be provided at the landing site, and some boat rentals will be available.  Get more information by contacting Lauren Carroll on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ssigrl.).  Registration forms are available at Model High School, the CRBI on Broad Street in downtown Rome or Blue Sky Outfitter.

CROSS-TOWN RIVALRY BETWEEN BERRY COLLEGE AND SHORTER UNIVERSITY TO BE REVIVED TONIGHT IN COLLEGE HOOPS

The cross-town rivalry between Berry College and Shorter University will be revived tonight at Berry as the women’s and men’s basketball teams meet for the second time this season in non-conference play.  Berry’s Lady Vikings will take on Shorter’s number 22 Lady Hawks at 6 pm.  The Vikings will face the number one Hawks at 8 pm.  The games will be broadcast on both 95.7 FM The Ridge and WLAQ AM 1410 and on our websites, www.theridge957.com and www.wlaq1410.com.
