BODY OF MISSING MAN FOUND SUNDAY

The body of a missing Floyd County man has been found.  The body of 32-year-old Matthew Todd Beam was found on Watkins Gin Road by two men yesterday.  Beam had been missing since February 24th.  He was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday afternoon at 3:30 pm.  The cause of death has yet to be determined.  Beam’s body has been sent to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta.

SHORTER UNIVERSITY’S BASKETALL HAWKS TO HIT THE ROAD FOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENT TODAY

Shorter University’s number one Hawks depart today for Kansas City, Missouri for the 2012 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.  The tournament begins this Wednesday, March 14th and will conclude with the championship game next Tuesday, March 20th.  The Hawks will make their first ever appearance in the tournament as the number one seed.  Head coach Chad Warner told 95.7 FM The Ridge’s Jim Bojo and Matt Davis on Matt D and Mullins in the Mornin’ that the team maintains its focus after a season that left the Hawks with 31 wins and two losses and their first ever Southern States Athletic Conference tournament title.  He says they are preparing for the next level of competition with their first round opponent for the NAIA tournament, Life University from Marietta.

ATLANTA BRAVES LOSE SUNDAY SPRING TRAINING OUTING TO TORONTO BLUE JAYS

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 yesterday in Spring Training action in Dunedin, Florida.  The Braves will take on the defending World Champion St. Louis Cardinals in Jupiter, Florida today at 1:05 pm.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

Get ready to spring forward!  The switch to Daylight Savings Time occurs this weekend.  It will be time to “spring forward”, or move your clock ahead one hour.  The time will change at 2 am on Sunday.

ISAKSON WEIGHS IN ON SUPER TUESDAY, US RELATIONS WITH ISRAEL

It’s been a busy week in the world of politics.  Where that’s concerned, the main thing grabbing headlines, of course, has been Super Tuesday.  US Senator Johnny Isakson says he believes that while Mitt Romney is gaining the lead in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, it’s not over yet at least where Rick Santorum is concerned.

INTERNET SAFETY TO BE HIGHLIGHTED AT TEEN FORUM

The internet can be a dangerous place, particularly for youngsters.  The Hospitality House for Women seeks to educate middle and high schoolers on internet safety with Lose the Drama!  Safe Dating and Social Media Forum tomorrow from 10 am until 2 pm in the Lakeview Auditorium on Georgia Highlands College’s main campus.

FEBRUARY REVENUES UP IN GEORGIA

Governor Nathan Deal has announced that the state’s net tax collections for February 2012 totaled $765 million, an increase of nearly $50 million or 7 percent compared to February 2011.  With eight months Fiscal Year 2012 now behind us, net revenue collections totaled almost $10.6 billion year-to-date, an increase of $471 million or 4.7 percent compared to the same period last year, according to a release from the Governor’s office.
