ATLANTA BRAVES PICK UP WIN IN DC FOLLOWING LENGTHY DELAY

Written by Matt Davis on July 7, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 5-2 in the opener of a four game set in Washington DC on Thursday night.  The victory followed a delay of three hours in anticipation of rain that turned out to be minimal.

Mike Foltynewicz picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up two runs and eight hits, walking one and striking out five over six innings.  Jim Johnson picked up his 19th save of the season.

Highlights of the night included a tie-breaking solo home run from Kurt Suzuki in the top of the sixth inning.

Freddie Freeman also notched his 1,000th career hit on one of two RBI doubles in Thursday night’s game.

The Braves will face the Nats again tonight at 7:05 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 5:50 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves game versus the Greenville Drive that was scheduled for Thursday night was postponed due to unplayable field conditions at State Mutual Stadium; the outing will be made up in Greenville on a date that has yet to be determined.  The Braves will play host to the West Virginia Power tonight at 7 pm.
