The Atlanta Braves opened up a 10-game homestand with a 13-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at SunTrust Park on Monday evening.  It was the fourth straight win for the Braves and the fourth loss in a row for the Pirates. 

Atlanta tallied five home runs on the night.  Ronald Acuna Jr. got it all started with a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning.

Ozzie Albies had a solo home run in the third and another one in the seventh.  Freddie Freeman clubbed a two-run homer in the fourth.  Nick Markakis hit a two-run shot in the eighth; he contributed four hits and four RBIs in Atlanta’s win over Pittsburgh to include his 1,000th career RBI on a run-scoring single in the sixth. 

Starling Marte had a three-run homer in the third as well as a solo shot in the eighth for the Pirates. 

Sean Newcomb picked up the win in relief for Atlanta after surrendering only one hit in four and two-third scoreless innings; he also struck out six and did not walk a batter.  Jacob Webb got his second save of the year.  Reliever Alex McRae took the loss for Pittsburgh. 

The Braves improved to 37-29 for the 2019 season with the win and are now tied with Philadelphia for first place in the National League East.  Game two of their four-game series with the Pirates is set for tonight at 7:20 pm.  Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM.  Air time is 6:05 pm.

Dallas Keuchel made his Braves debut in Rome on Monday evening.  The Cy Young Award winner allowed only one hit and tallied nine strikeouts in seven scoreless innings for the Rome Braves, who beat the Charleston Riverdogs by a final score of 1-0 in 10 innings.  Rome and Charleston will go head to head again tonight at 7 pm.  Keuchel will soon make his debut with Atlanta.
