ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN HOMESTAND WITH LOSS TO TEXAS RANGERS, ROME BRAVES END 2017 SEASON WITH A WIN

Written by Matt Davis on September 5, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game homestand with a loss to the Texas Rangers 8-2 on Monday night at SunTrust Park.

It was a tough night on the mound for RA Dickey, who was charged with seven runs (six of them earned) and eight hits over just four and one-third innings; he also walked three and struck out three.

Elvis Andrus, Nomar Mazara and Rougned Odor (Roo-ned O-dur) all homered for Texas.  Andrus’ solo shot opened the scoring in the top of the first.  Mazara’s solo home run preceded a two-run bomb from Odor in the Rangers’ three-run fifth inning.

A two-run homer from Matt Adams in the bottom of the fourth accounted for the Braves’ only runs of the night.

Andrew Cashner picked up the win for Texas after giving up two runs and six hits, walking two and striking out five over six innings.  He also drove in a run; Cashner’s sac fly drove Mike Napoli to home plate in the second.

The Braves will face the Rangers in the middle outing of a three-game series tonight at 7:35 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 6:20 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves’ 2017 season drew to a close on a winning note with a 4-2 victory over the Columbia Fireflies on Monday at State Mutual Stadium.  The win allowed the Braves to finish the season with a total of 74 wins and 65 losses.
