ATLANTA BRAVES HANDED FIFTH STRAIGHT LOSS

Written by Matt Davis on May 10, 2017. Posted in Sports

The Atlanta Braves fell to the Houston Astros 8-3 on Tuesday night in the opener of a two-game interleague series at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.  It was the Braves’ fifth straight loss.

Houston jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a three-run homer from Carlos Correa off Bartolo Colon.

Carlos Beltran hit a solo home run in the very next at-bat.  Josh Reddick also homered for the Astros; his solo shot came in the fifth.

One bright spot of the night for the Braves came in the form of Matt Kemp, who contributed a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 10 consecutive games.

Bartolo Colon took the loss for Atlanta after giving up eight runs (including three homers) and eight hits, walking none and striking out three over five and two-third innings.  Charlie Morton (a former Brave) picked up the win for Houston.

The Braves will wrap up their brief series versus the Astros with a 2:10 pm outing this afternoon.  We will join the game in progress upon the conclusion of the Rush Limbaugh Show on WLAQ AM 1410.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were off on Tuesday night and will open up a seven-game homestand tonight with a match against the Hagerstown Suns.  First pitch is set for 7 pm at State Mutual Stadium.
